In 2026, we’re returning to more analog hobbies. We love our social media, YouTube videos, and online moments, of course, but we are also ready to broaden our horizons with more screen-free and hands-on activities, too.

One of our favorite analogy activities is LEGOS! Now, we can make this hobby even more fun thanks to the new LEGO SMART Play platform with new Star Wars sets.
LEGO’s new SMART Play platform is designed to make your builds even more fun after you’re done building! This platform is a new innovation that “allows brick builders to bring their LEGO creations to life like never before.” The new platform was announced on January 5th at the Consumer Electronics Show, and LEGO is deeming it one of its “most significant innovations” since the introduction of LEGO Minifigures in 1978.

The platform is made up of three different elements. The LEGO SMART Brick, LEGO SMART Tags, and LEGO SMART Minifigures. This play system allows your finished creations to react in real time to make the play experience more interactive. The LEGO SMART Brick is the heart of the system and it’s powered by a custom chip that is smaller than a normal LEGO stud. This technology allows the brick to pair with LEGO SMART Tags and LEGO SMART Minifigures so they can become responsive.

This new set will be part of the LEGO Star Wars line, meaning the sets will play back by bringing the sounds of the famous franchise to life. The SMART features can unlock sounds like the Lightsaber hums that work with the Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker SMART minifigures. You will also be able to hear the engine of the A-wing and “The Imperial March” theme music with Emperor Palpatine sitting on his throne.

There will be three sets in total, including the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, and the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel & A-Wing.

All three of these sets will come with a LEGO SMART Brick charger and at least one of the SMART minifigures and tags. You can find the new sets on the DisneyStore and in select markets starting on March 1st, 2026. We love seeing such a classic way to play grow and expand, especially when it’s connected to a franchise we adore! Be sure to keep following DFB for more Disney news, updates, and more.
