Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has been the world’s busiest — and most crowded — theme park nearly every year since 1971. 2026 will likely be no exception, as millions will flock to the “Most Magical Place on Earth” despite the massive Piston Peak and Villains Land construction project. However, some days will be even more crowded — and wiser to avoid — than others.
While there’s really no such thing as an “off season” at Walt Disney World these days, that doesn’t mean that the traditional Holidays associated with vacation aren’t some of the park’s busiest.
President’s Day Weekend (2/13-2/15)
The first major school holiday of the year, and the first period to avoid the Magic Kingdom, comes in February with Presidents’ Day. The weekend around the Holiday (which falls on February 16th) is always busy, as is the week after, which often serves as a winter break for many school children, especially in the northeast.
Memorial Day Weekend (5/22-5/25)
As the unofficial start of the summer season, Memorial Day weekend is always a crowded one at the resort. On top of that, Disney has a habit of debuting new or refurbished attractions during this period, which this year could potentially include the refurbished Big Thunder Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at the park.
4th of July Weekend (7/3-7/5)
Walt Disney World always goes BIG for the Fourth of July, complete with massive patriotic fireworks shows at the Magic Kingdom and massive crowds. 2026 will likely be even bigger than usual, considering it will mark the 250th birthday of the United States.
Christmas Day (12/25)
Believe it or not, Christmas Day is one of the busiest days at Walt Disney World as many guests choose to spend the Holiday on property. The Magic Kingdom is particularly popular thanks to nostalgia, its Christmas parade offering, and the oh-so-holiday meal offering at Liberty Tree Tavern.
New Year’s Eve (12/31)
And finally, we’ll circle all the way to the end of the year, as MANY revelers choose to ring in the new year at Walt Disney World, especially at Magic Kingdom which is renowned for its fireworks presentation. Quick tip: In recent years, Disney has offered the Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s fireworks four times: Shows have launched at 7:30 PM and 11:50 PM on both the 31st and a day early on the 30th.
If you’re planning to visit the Magic Kingdom in 2026 and want to avoid the largest crowds and longest lines, you’ll want to avoid these dates if possible. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the state of Disney World in 2026.
