A TON of new rides and experiences are now open in Disney World, including Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring the Muppets, Bluey’s Wild World, and Soarin’ Over America. However, we can’t forget about all of the many Disney World projects still under construction.
And over in Magic Kingdom, we’ve got a new Piston Peak update we have to tell you about!
Piston Peak is a Magic Kingdom expansion themed to the Cars universe. However, to stay in theme with the Frontierland aesthetic, in this land, you are visiting Piston Peak National Park, a nature wonderland in the Cars universe.
We will be getting two new attractions in this land, as well as lots of immersive natural scenery to explore. We are so excited for this land to open, and we’ve got an update on the construction process.
On our last visit, we noticed lots of earth and dirt being moved around, as well as drainage pipes that looked staged for installation. This would be a huge step forward in the construction process.
There is still a very long way to go before this land is open for the public to explore and enjoy, however.
But, we are excited that after a long closure, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has officially reopened, with an updated track, new effects, and a brand new scene! This marks the first step of the major Frontierland expansion and update.
We will make sure to keep you informed of any Piston Peak news or construction updates, so stay tuned to Disney Food Blog so you never miss anything!

I’m not excited at all. I loved frontierland; it was a chance to experience our country at another time and place. I loved the steamboat and the river as well as Tom Sawyer’s island. Now it will just be cars from our time, nothing imaginative.
Sincerely hoping to be wrong about it but also not excited about what appears to be a somewhat souped up atv course. Also hoping it isn’t as noisy as I’m afraid it will be (updated Tomorrowland Speedway?) and worried about Frontierland and Liberty Square losing their immersive theming (making Haunted Mansion fit the vibe of Piston Peak? Please! Make Piston Peak fit the location and earn it’s place!) and becoming just a bunch of rides and shows bunched together like any other amusement part or county fair. I find it interesting that Universal started with less theming and more amusement park vibes and has transitioned to immersion theming and Disney seems determined to move away from that between the “updates” at the resorts and this trend in the parks. (a bayou in the mountains?) Please Disney, prove me wrong.
