If you’re planning on booking a Disney cruise and want to save yourself some money, listen up!
While there are dining packages, vacation bundles, and certain dates that may cause your cruise to be cheaper, there is ONE hack that could actually save you thousands of dollars while you’re still soaking in all of the magic and perks a Disney cruise has to offer! But will it work for you?
One of the biggest money-saving tips when it comes to booking a Disney cruise is booking GTY, also known as a Guaranteed Stateroom. This allows guests to secure a room without knowing the specific location in advance. So, while other passengers are selecting room numbers and know where they are staying, you will not find out until closer to departure. You’ll still be able to choose the category of your room (Inside, Oceanview, or Verandah), but not your deck or room number.
We were browsing the Disney Cruise Line website (like any sane person does every day) and found a deal that could save you just over $1,500! And the best part — it’s a Christmastime cruise! A 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral is available from December 5th through the 12th on the Disney Treasure for $4,787 plus tax. This is down from $6,299, which is where the GTY price comes in.
This cruise is priced for two adults and sails to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and Disney Castaway Cay. On your cruise, you’ll find entertainment and activities, several dining options, kids’ clubs, adult-only clubs and lounges, and more! Gratuities are not included in the price of your cruise, so be sure to keep that in mind. There are also signature dining options at an additional cost, which we definitely recommend because we DREAM about going back to Palo every night!
So, is it the right fit for you?
GTY is a great fit if:
- You’re a flexible traveler who doesn’t mind where your room is on the ship
- You don’t mind the surprise when it comes to where you’re staying, since you’re saving money
- You don’t have anyone in your party who gets seasick, because there are some locations on the ship that ease seasickness better than others
GTY may not be for you if:
- You need to know where you’re staying beforehand
- Choosing the exact location of your cabin matters to you
- You prefer one location over others (i.e. closer to the elevators, away from the noise, etc.)
So, if you want to save money and the surprise of where you’ll be staying for a week sounds good to you, a GTY room is a great option, especially when it comes to expensive Disney cruises, and can save you thousands of dollars! We’re always looking for the best money-saving tips for your next vacation, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!
