Disney, please stop with the lies; we are begging you! We just want to know when Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace will ACTUALLY reopen.
That’s right, the opening of this fan-favorite Polynesian Resort spot has just been delayed ANOTHER time. So let’s dive into the new projected opening date and all the times Disney has changed it so far, because let’s be real, we are starting to have trust issues with these opening dates.
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace closed for refurbishment at Disney’s Polynesian Resort back in April. Originally, this closure was set to be very short, with a reopening scheduled for just a few months later in June.
However, as the summer went on, it became clear that this space would not open on that original timeline. Then, back in July, Disney officially pushed the reopening date to sometime in October. Well, now that October is almost over, we’ve been keeping an eye on this space, and we have not seen any hints of a reopening date or that the construction was wrapping up.
Well, that is because Disney has pushed the date back AGAIN. Now Disney has shared that Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is set to be closed through mid-December. This would mean this space will be reopening almost six months behind its original schedule, and that’s IF this space does actually reopen in December. After months of pushing back the opening date, we will need to set foot in the reopened space before we actually believe Disney that it is opening back up.
Thankfully, during this whole Tiki Terrace debacle, the indoor part of the space, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, has remained open to guests. This space is themed to famed Adventureland explorer Trader Sam, as he creates exotic and interesting offerings to try in the tropical oasis of the Grog Grotto.
While we are happy that part of this space has remained open, we are ready for the outdoor Tiki Terrace section to finally reopen, especially as we approach nicer weather in Disney World. So, we hope that this new mid-December opening is true and that this space will be open again in the next few months.
Now, if you are staying at the Polynesian soon, then it is important to remember that ongoing construction is happening around the resort through early 2027, which means that there could be noise and construction happening during your stay. Disney does their best to minimize these disturbances, but it is something to keep in mind when planning your visit.

I don’t think Disney leadership can handle the thought of there not being construction at the Polynesian. It’s been going on constantly for more than ten years, starting with the bungalows and DVC conversion, then the lobby, monorail station and porte cochere, building of the new DVC tower, renovations to non-DVC longhouses and now this work. While maintenance is great, it’s a bit ridiculous that a guest could stay at a resort annually for ten years and never experience it without construction. Ludicrous that a brand new property from the ground up like Riviera or Reflections can be built in a fraction of the time that things have been occurring at the Polynesian.
It is well known that, (but not accepted) that Disney renovations, and for that matter all construction is not only slow, but borders on the slowest in the industry. Nothing is ever on time, or ahead of schedule for that matter. It is almost like they decide to to a renovation or re-theming, start the process, then order the materials need to complete it. They never seem to have the pieces of the puzzle pre-assembled and staged for the work. Poor planning is rampid at Disney.
