We have more exciting news for you today about upcoming Fall events in Walt Disney World!
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort has announced the dates, menus, and seminars for their 7th Annual Food and Wine Classic. Circle Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29, 2016, on your calendars!
The Beer Garden, which was first introduced in 2014, is also returning, and will offer a wide range of beers from all over the world as well as local brews!
Guests can also enjoy more than 40 tasting stations featuring dishes from the resort’s 17 restaurants and lounges as well as more than 30 wineries on the Causeway. Seminars offer an immersive educational opportunity, as participants delve deeper into the crafting of beverages, food and beverage pairing, and cooking demos. Let’s take a closer look at both!
Like many of you, we here at the DFB are pretty big fans of the souvenir popcorn buckets that pop up all around Disney World and Disneyland, often commemorating classic or even new attractions (like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train bucket) or promoting the latest Disney film (such as the Cinderella Coach bucket which made an appearance when the live-action Cinderella film was released).
Disney just provided a glimpse of a new souvenir popcorn bucket on the way “later this year” to Disney’s Animal Kingdom: the Light-Up Lotus Popcorn Bucket. This unique bucket will light up, turning it into a luminary.
Though no release date was given for the new bucket, it certainly seems as though it is made to complement the upcoming Rivers of Light evening spectacular, slated to debut this spring. After all, we know that lanterns will play a huge part in the show, and some of the concept art for the spectacular features lotus blossoms as a major centerpiece element. [Read more…]

We are kicking off this week right with one of my favorite breakfasts in all of the Disney Food Universe — Kona Cafe!
This mainstay of Walt Disney World flies under the radar quite a lot of the time. If you don’t know better, you’ll probably write it off as just a garden variety hotel lobby restaurant, good for grabbing a bite before you move onto bigger things.
For me — and for many Disney fans in the know — it’s a destination.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s take a look around, then dive right into the eats.
If it’s been a while since your last visit to the Polynesian, then you’re in for a bit of a surprise. The hotel, one of Disney World’s original resorts, recently underwent a huge renovation.
The work not only added many new enhancements, like Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and the Pineapple Lanai (your home for Dole Whip at the Poly). But it also transformed areas like the hotel’s lobby. While I miss the sound of the old waterfall, I think this assortment of glass float lights is a nice, new focal point.
Still, for better or for worse, Kona Cafe has remained largely unchanged. Located off of the second floor atrium, it still appears to be a rather ho-hum restaurant. [Read more…]

When The Ganachery – Disney’s own specialty chocolate shop – opened nearly one month ago in Disney Springs, it was impossible not to notice that this little chocolate boutique had a unique vibe all its own. (Take a full tour of the spot here!)
With specially-trained Cast Members (Chocolatiers) serving sixteen unique flavors of ganache, it’s clear that The Ganachery aims to offer a higher-end experience that isn’t replicated in other sweet stops around Disney World. [Read more…]
Calling all artists… who also love cocktails!
Wolfgang Puck Cafe and The Dining Room
On Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 12:00 – 3:00 pm, Wolfgang Puck Café in Disney Springs is hosting the Orlando branch of Wine & Canvas: a company that offers painting lessons within a party setting at bars and restaurants.
Aspiring painters attending the event at Wolfgang Puck Café will work on a piece entitled “Moon Sail,” and the price per seat to attend is $25.00.
According the to the Wine & Canvas website, upon your arrival “All of your supplies are waiting to create your masterpiece, including an apron to keep your clothes clean. Our talented local artists will instruct the featured artwork step-by-step while you relax, sip and paint along!”
By the way, though the company’s tagline is “The Painting Class with Cocktails,” consuming alcohol is by no means a requirement ;). Though guests are welcome to purchase cocktails off the Wolfgang Puck Cafe menu (not included within the admission fee for the event), anyone looking to try their hand at painting can join in, even if your beverage of choice is non-alcoholic. That said, Wine & Canvas is an adults-only event. [Read more…]
We’re in “WE CAN’T WAIT” mode when it comes to the 2016 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, and we’re already talking about it and planning for it!
But since we can’t be there right now, it’s fun to cook up some of our favorite dishes at home! Lamb chops might not be an everyday kind of meal around your house – it certainly isn’t in the regular rotation at our house – but these Grilled Lamb Chops with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies make a nice weekend dinner for the family.
Or maybe you’re planning a casual dinner party for friends – these would be the perfect main dish!
These aren’t too fancy or labor-intensive when it comes to grilling lamb chops – which is one of the reasons we love this recipe. It really is quick and easy, and since it’s one of the most beloved dishes at the Food and Wine Festival, we’re pretty sure it’ll be a winner at your house, too.
And the “potato crunchies” – well, that’s just a fancy name for crushed salt and vinegar potato chips! It doesn’t get easier than that!
Ready to expand your entree range in the kitchen and give your kids potato chips for dinner? Read on! ;-D
