Jambo! I just love when a new character meal is added to our Disney World dining options! Tusker House Restaurant in the Animal Kingdom’s Harambe area will begin offering character lunches on December 4th!
Donald and Daisy Duck are taking on extra hours as Donald’s Safari Breakfast will still be offered daily!
Donald’s Dining Safari Lunch will be hosted by Donald and Daisy Duck while guests sample delicious all-you-can-eat spit-roasted meats, unique salads, vegetarian options, hearty stews and delectable desserts. All of the menu offerings will be inspired by African cuisine.
Book your Donald’s Dining Safari Lunch via phone at 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463). Remember, it begins on December 4th, 2011!

Woo hoo!

Noooooo!!! Tusker House lunch was wonderful – now it will cost more and be riddled with pesky characters. What a disappointment.
Adam says
Very cool…always love a new character meal, especially a lunch! Still miss my Liberty Tree Tavern meal though.
Jon Grant says
Not excited about this.
Der futur: People book Tusker House to see the characters. People complain about the ‘weird’ food. Tusker House bends the menu more towards the typical buffet menu. My beloved Tusker House is gone.
Hope it doesn’t happen that way.
JoAnn says
I will be experiencing my first character meal this year. Ok, actually 4. One is at Tusker House for breakfast. I’ll let you know how I feel about this after my trip. Either I will love the idea or I’ll be so burnt out by character dining I won’t like the idea. 🙂
Rose says
We like to enjoy these restaurants without the characters. Nothing against Donald and my fav Daisy but meals are so much more hectic with them. Maybe it is just for the busy season!
Jeanine says
Anyone know if they’ll still offer the Finding Nemo seating?
RoonieRoo says
I’m very disappointed with this. There goes our pleasant lunch location in AK. Eventually the very good and different food will be kicked out for more kid friendly lunch foods + the prices go up + that building already echoes some and now it will be very noisy.
I’m very sad about this but I’m sure there are way more people that are excited about yet another character meal that will fill up the seats.
AJ says
Dana, Jon, Rose, and Roonie — Guess it’s time for more meals at Yak & Yeti! Do you like that restaurant? I can highly recommend the Dim Sum basket!
Tom — Ha ha! Big Donald fan?
Adam — Liberty Tree Tavern lunch is one of our favorites, though!
JoAnn — Yes! Let us know when you get back!
Jeanine — I was wondering that, too… My guess is that it would still be in tact.

Nice, my kids will love this on the next trip. In 8 days we couldn’t seem to catch Daisy anywhere. We found her a few times but the lines were always closed due to her getting ready to go to a different park or a Parade. And i’ll enjoy the food 🙂
BJ Wanlund says
I personally am THRILLED, because I love Donald, and Daisy seems to be such a rarity in terms of pictures when you get to the parks.
Lunch too? Woo-hoo!
And since I’ve never been to either Liberty Tree Tavern, Columbia Harbour House, OR Tusker House, I will be remedying that on my next trip (whenever that is).

The Nemo seating is not being offered with the lunch package.

NOOOOOOOOOO! Another one of my favorite restaurants is taken over by characters. I’m still not happy about losing Akershus to the princesses. And we were worried when Tusker went to TS and that turned out to be a good thing. I don’t want to pay extra to see characters that I don’t want to see. NOOOOOOOOOO!
Samantha says
Nooo!!!! I promised my boyfriend NO CHARACTER MEALS and so even though we’re vegetarian and Tusker House looks amazing, Tusker House will have to be OUT.
What a disappointment.
Lauren says
What a shame. We just had a terrific lunch there last month, and planned to go back next trip. Now the prices will surely rise and they’ll probably be forced to serve more chicken nuggets, and the commotion will cause me to regretfully stay away.
ShaeLee says
Do you know if the lunch is permanent or is this only going to last for the holidays?
AJ says
Good question, ShaeLee — No idea on this one! My guess is that it’s permanent.

I have gone there and the lunch is a bigger trainwreck than Last Year’s Taste of Africa event.
The moment i was paged, i accidentally went up the ramp only to be belittled by a rude cast member who told me to take the stairs. If that wasn’t miserable enough, i had to wait in line for Donald’s photo op which was disillusioning since I was told that Donald does not sign any autographs. This line was more aggravating since every minute or so, the cast member who called me out, kept shouting at the guest to keep the lines moving. When i finally got to Donald, the photographer was just as rude as the traffic upholding woman, and was insistent on having me remove my sunglasses.
As for the service inside, i was lucky to have a great server, but the characters were too rushed. When i was finished, i tried to speak with a manager in regards of the rude staff, but unfortunately, i spoke with a manager from Navasota, TX (The name though, seems to escape me) who was just as self centered and uncaring as the staff outside and just gave me some cliched “sorry that you had a bad experience” talk. I was absolutely disgusted. I just hope that this character lunch is immediately discontinued. The Nemo dining package was good enough, and it did not have to be phased out over this joke of a character dining experience. Overall, i would give this lunch: MINUS 5 STARS!!

How fun! And honestly….it IS Disneyworld…..so, if people are not wanting to be surrounded by children or Disney characters…..maybe then they shouldn’t be there. Just sayin’. I think it’s fantastic to add a good character lunch to AK! 🙂
Brian says
Ehat a disgrace! The best CS several years ago, and now it’s a character buffet. Terrible news for those of us looking for a quiet relaxing meal in AK.
JoAnn says
I loved the character breakfast at the Tusker House. I would enjoy lunch there as well.
Stacey says
We booked a lunch here for our trip in March. It will be my first character meal. We are staying off site so I didn’t want to do a breakfast because most of the review sites say if you don’t get there first thing, then you usually have a wait (regardless if you have a reservation). Hopefully it is worth it!!
AJ says
Stacey — Have fun!! 🙂
Lara K says
Happy to report that the Tusker House lunch buffet is still awesome – great cuisine, lots of variety – even with the addition of characters. Just ate there last week with our two year old and she went nuts over the “dance party” with Daisy, photo with Donald, and lots of quality time with Daisy, Goofy and Mickey himself during lunch. We took some great photos and ended up buying the staged portrait with Donald (even though my hubby made me swear that I wouldn’t) because it came out soooo cute I couldn’t not! Great lunch, loved the Animal Kingdom itself more than ever… oh, and the micro-tiny-gourmet desserts at the buffet were to die for. Yummy.
AJ says
Thanks Lara!! Great news!!
