Today I had quite possibly one of the best ideas I think I’ve ever had in my life. I am a huge grilled cheese and tomato soup fan, and on this cold and rainy Southern California day, I found myself with a craving for it.
However, I had planned to take my boys to Disneyland after school for a fun rainy day trip. SO… I came up with this amazing solution: Why not heat up some soup, stick it in a Thermos, bring it to Disney California Adventure, and combine it with a Cheddar Cheese Stick from the Corn Dog Castle?
I picked my boys up from school, and (knowing they’d say yes) I asked them if they wanted to go to Corn Dog Castle for lunch (early dismissal today!). So off we headed, me with my warm soup Thermos in my bag! (I had no problem getting it through security, by the way.)

I ordered the cheese stick corn dog meal, which is basically just a stick of cheese, breaded with corn dog batter, and fried just like a regular corn dog. (Check out my review from the Corn Dog Castle here!)
…and started dipping!
I will tell you this, I am pretty darn proud of myself! Combing Corn Dog Castle’s Cheddar Cheese on a Stick with tomato soup was pretty much a grilled cheese and soup combo. Honestly, it might even be a BETTER combo. What a fun experiment.
I’m thinking Corn Dog Castle needs to add tomato soup to their menu! What do you think?

A seriously BRAZILLIANT idea!! I was bummed when Corn Dog Castle closed but since my love affair with the chimichanga I never eat anything at DL or DCA other than that. However, the cheese on a stick might be a new contender!! Cheese dogs are synonymous with Hot Dog on a Stick for me,being raised a mall rat baby&with The Vandals “Cafe 405” song but I digress… : ) Read your review from when it reopened and the hot link on a stick looks like something I’ll be forcing my hubby to try so I can have a bite! Thanks for the great idea!
Brandy — Hot link is AWECHUM!! You must try it. 😉
WHY does WDW not have cheese on a stick?? That looks brilliant!
There use to be a local corn dog/cheese dog restaurant here(Charleston, SC) that had the BEST corn dogs/cheese dogs. The corn dogs/cheese dogs were dipped in batter and fried in front of you when you ordered. So far, I haven’t been able to find anything like them not even in Walt Disney World 🙁 .
That sounds delicious – I never realized you could get just cheese corn dog either! Fried cornbread, gooey cheese, and warm tomato soup is an amazing combo. I think I might have to experiment with making it at home!
I agree – that is super brilliant! I didn’t realize DL had these cheese sticks and dipped in tomato soup? Yum!!
Great idea! Here is another. Head over to White Water Snacks. There is a wonderful grilled cheese sandwich on the kids menu. Also, a microwave is available for all to heat up any food. Pop your soup in there while waiting for your food to arrive. Yum!
O.M.G.!!!
For the love of all that is good, pleasepleaseplease let the powers that be bring this wonderful creation that is the “Cheese Stick Corn Dog” to WDW!
What a fantastic idea! I really wish WDW had corn dogs/cheese on a stick like that!
Cheese in corn dog batter?! yes please! I don’t eat hot dogs but love that corn dog batter so much that sometimes i’ll just peel it off and give the hot dog to my hubby. But cheddar and corn dog batter sounds perfect! If you’re listening WDW, how ’bout adding this beaut to Casey’s Corner?!
@Brandy – Thanks! It is similar to the Hot Dog on a Stick one, but way bigger and the batter is way better!
@Bonnie – Guess it’s one of the perks of Anaheim! ; )
@Heidi – These are made fresh to order too! You’d better get out to Cali to get your fix!
@Jaia – Take pics and document your home experiment! We can do a post about your “Inspired by Disney” meal!
@Kathy – They are only available at DCA’s Corn Dog Castle. AND they are amazing!
@Jen – Thanks! Start your petition for WDW!
@Gigi – Thanks for the tip!
@Jenn & @Aubrey – You guys have the Carrot Cake Cookie in Orlando, we have the cheese on a stick. Fair is fair ; ) AND by the way the batter is to die for, hand dipped!
Sounds scrumdiddlyumptious!!!!!!! Casey’s corner does need to consider this!
Hi Heather!! This is indeed a very fun experiment. My mouth is watering and feeling hungry for it.
