Please welcome back Guest Author Julie B. as we head with her to the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney Orlando. Today, she samples the Chicken Pesto Pomodoro Sandwich! Let’s check it out…
There’s a lot of buzz about the new offerings at Earl of Sandwich and I’m eager to sample the new wraps, salads, soups, and sandwiches.
While I was sad that the new items weren’t on the menu yet when I visited, I couldn’t pass up a chance to try another undiscovered sandwich while at my favorite Disney sandwich shop!
Chicken Pesto Pomodoro Sandwich
The Chicken Pesto Pomodoro sandwich was a winter seasonal selection that is supposedly becoming a regular item on the menu!
It features grilled chicken, Swiss cheese, tomato, and basil leaves. They said the bread is brushed with olive oil before being coated in basil pesto.
A very helpful hostess recommended ordering an extra side of pesto (she said some were finding the sandwich too dry without any extra).
My sandwich arrived in all its toasty goodness. There’s something so exciting about opening that little golden package of sandwich perfection, isn’t there?
I was a little disappointed to see that my bread was a bit dark for my preference. The thing that always amazes me about Earl of Sandwich is their ability to miraculously balance a thin crunch from the toasting while not drying out the center of the bread. But I think my batch of bread was a little over-baked.
The filling was a really wonderful combination, though! I love fresh basil in just about anything, and it was the perfect floral addition to the chicken and cheese.
The pesto spread on the sandwich is more like a creamy pesto, almost a cross between a thin mayo and a traditional pesto. I was impressed by the flavor! And definitely ask for an extra side of this — it was perfect for spreading. (Who am I kidding, I dipped the sandwich right into the pesto!)
Overall
The Chicken Pesto Pomodoro is definitely worth a try on your next Earl of Sandwich visit! I’m pleased to hear that it’s going to be a regular on the menu.

Notice that the sandwich in the article doesn’t look like the one in the ad. That was my experience with EoS. They were over-crowded, over-priced and over-hyped. They got so many orders mixed up that people were taking what they could get rather than try and argue with the staff. I had their All-American: Two paper thin slices of turkey a thin slice of cheese, some wilted lettuce like stuff, and two thin slices of Roma tomato. Never again.

Well, I’ve been lucky enough never to run into the problems that Ed has in the above comment. As someone who prefers smaller, lighter meals (and more of them), Earl ‘s has always been one of my very favorites. I love the fact that they aren’t afraid to add to or change their menu. Looking forward to trying the new items on my next visit.
