Chicken Dance your way over to DCA! As part of their Limited Time Magic promotion, Disney California Adventure is celebrating Oktoberfest with some special items at Bayside Brews.
Available through the month of October, the special Oktoberfest items include a Bratwurst Sandwich, Bavarian Pretzels, Gingerbread Bundt Cake, and two specialty beers on tap: Karl Strauss Oktoberfest & Hofbrau Munchen Beer.
The Bratwurst Sausage is served in a garlic brioche with a side of hickory smoked bacon sauerkraut. The sandwich is $8.49 and comes with a choice of apples or potato chips.
I have to say, my husband and I were both very surprised how great this meal was for being at a quick service stand.
The sausage was juicy, flavorful, and had the perfect amount of pop when biting into it. Although I didn’t really taste the garlic in it, the brioche was freshly baked and very soft. I also appreciated that fact that the bacon sauerkraut was served on the side because I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to add to my sandwich.
After a little sample, I decided that I’d smother it! SO good! Large chunks of hickory smoked bacon amidst traditional sauerkraut.
I added a little yellow mustard, then loaded up on the kraut to create my perfect brat!
Or if you prefer, have yours served up with an adult beverage! After all, brats and brews are perfect companions, right?
The Bavarian Pretzel was not quite as impressive as the bratwurst.
Here’s the thing, if you have ever had a real Bavarian Pretzel from a real bakery in real Germany, you might be sad. As a high-schooler I did a one month exchange program in Stuttgart and I basically lived off of the things. They SHOULD look like this. But instead they were basically a regular Disney pretzel with a different twisty look.

Although still tasty, I so wished they were more true to the traditional “Bavarian” bakery style. The pretzels are $3.69. The same price as the other Disney pretzels offered on site.
Rounding out the German trifecta is the Mini Gingerbread Bundt Cake. Perfect for sharing, the bundt cake is $4.99.
With little specks of frosting embedded in the top surface, the cake has just a touch of sweetness that goes nicely with the gingerbread flavor. The cake was moist and generously sized.
It wouldn’t be my first choice in the dessert department, but was definitely worth a try!
Overall, my family loved the Oktoberfest offerings! The bratwurst meal is a great amount of food for the price and it was fun to try something new. If you have the chance, get over to DCA before these fab items are gone. They’re fantastisch (thank you Google translator)!

The brawtwurst is making me very very hungry!!!!
@Angelina – It is SO good!
The brat looks very good. I really love good soft pretzels. Good ones have to be dark, crisp and salty on the outside and soft on the inside; boy, I could eat one right now.
@Essie – Nothing better than a perfect pretzel!
I didn’t have a chance to try the Oktoberfest bratwust at Bayside Brews, but isn’t it the same one that is served at Troubador Tavern (the QS next to Fantasyland Theater)? 99% sure it is. Which is awesome, because the one at Troubador Tavern is delicious and it’s there all the time!
@Kristen – It may very well be! It’s been a long time since I’ve had that one, I think I enjoyed it more at DCA though, with the beer pairing option and all! ; )
