Did you know that this year marks the 20th anniversary of The Lion King film? For those who love this beautiful Disney movie, we have some amazing news: Disney’s Animal Kingdom is marking this special event with Harambe Nights!
This hard-ticket event features The Lion King – Concert in the Wild, an updated version of one of Disney Parks’ most popular stage shows set in the all-new Harambe Theatre!
Your ticket for this event includes a special Welcome Reception in Harambe Village with appetizers and “African-inspired” wine and beer.
The event continues with seating for a private performance of The Lion King – Concert in the Wild — featuring a guest celebrity narrator with a live orchestra and choir. The whole thing includes dancing, dramatic light effects, and accompanying moments from the film.
Your ticket ALSO includes an After-Party in the streets of Harambe Village with an all-inclusive buffet featuring African cuisine and gourmet desserts, live music and dance, specialty merchandise, Character Greetings, and a special finale to cap off your adventure!
We’re thinking this is going to be much more involved food-wise than the Sundowner events or the Street Parties previously held in the Animal Kingdom. (It’ll have to be considering the price, right? See below!)
Dates: Saturdays running from June 7 to August 9, 2014
Price: $119 for adults, $79 for children (tax not included). Premium Seating is available for $134 for adults, and $94 for children.
This special event is sure to be both memorable and exceptional as “iconic scenes from the film are recreated with splendid theatricality.” The list of celebrity narrators (subject to change) is as follows:
June 7 – Viola Davis: “The Help,” “Ender’s Game”
June 14 – TBD
June 21 – Montego Glover: “The Following,” “Memphis”
June 28 – David Alan Grier: “Porgy & Bess,” “In Living Color”
July 5 – Michael Beach: “ER,” “Third Watch,” “Sons of Anarchy”
July 12 – Harry Lennix: “The Blacklist,” “The Five Heartbeats”
July 19 – Joe Morton: “Scandal,” “American Gangster,” “The Good Wife”
July 26 – Alfre Woodard: “Desperate Housewives,” “Miss Evers Boys”
August 2 – Patina Miller: “Pippin,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1”
August 9 – Brian Stokes Mitchell: “Ragtime,” “Trapper John, M.D.,” “Glee”
Theme park admission is included with the cost of the event starting at 4:00 pm; however, attractions and entertainment outside of the designated event area are not included. The Harambe Nights Welcome Reception begins at 7:00 pm, and parking is complimentary beginning at 4 pm.
And should the event continue past these dates, hopefully guests will be able to also catch the new Rivers of Light Nighttime Spectacular coming to Animal Kingdom! No set date yet, but I can’t wait!

Oh, bummer….we aren’t going until October…I would love to have a ticket to this….sounds like a very good Disney value, and an excellent and fun show! Hope they continue it into the fall!

I was excited about this until I saw the dates. Unfortunately, we will be there in October. It’s pricey. I would be interested to now how long the show is. The reception starts at 7pm but when does the evening end? For this price I would want a full nights entertainment.

Is there a credit if you are a passholder? I think there should be. A passholder has already paid for park admission and parking. The show sounds wonderful, but that is quite an investment.

Purchased premium tickets for August 9th! Can’t wait. I think it sounds awesome and I love the lion king!!!

@melissa – the “show” part of the evening has been clocked at around 55 minutes (and it is a different show than the normal day-time show), so I think the timings look sort of like this…
Welcome Reception: From 7:00 – 7:30PM
Show/Theatrical Experience: From 7:30 – 8:25PM
Street Party / Food & Beverage: From 8:25 – 10:00PM
Tree of Life with desserts and cordials: From 10:00 – 10:30PM
… personally, I think they could have used an extra 15 minutes in all of the segments, and made the whole thing from 6:30pm to 11pm… but that’s just me.
@amy – I know right! But I just got my Mickey Monitor yesterday, and there’s no mention of a discount in there… so… my guess is, there won’t be a passholder night, or discount.
