Today’s was a big day in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs! The re-imagined World of Disney reopened with a radically different look and some mixed reactions from Disney fans. And tucked into the check-out areas throughout the store are the reusable shopping bags!
Yeah, believe it or not, even a reusable shopping bag can be fodder for conversation among Disney guests, and it’s due to Disney’s announcement about reducing plastic waste in the World by eliminating (really limiting) single-use plastic straws and single-use plastic bags.
But when you get a look at these cute reusable bags, you might just forget about all the plastic drama. Because Mickey!
Who could stay grumpy when they look at that face?!
You’ll find displays of reusable bags in three sizes at the check-outs in World of Disney. The cheerful blue color stands out against the more muted displays.
With some prices rising all across the resort, it’s nice to see that these bags are really reasonably priced. The small and medium sizes are just $1, and the larger size — which is massive! — is $2.
The other side of the bag features the four characters who, with the main mouse, make up the Fab 5 of classic Disney characters. We see you, down there in the corner, Pluto, and we love you. 😉
The large bag is quite large, big enough for several tee shirts, a couple of good size stuffed animals, or just about anything else you can find. We love that because it means we could feasibly get away with buying just one bag to haul all of our stuff. (Plus, are we the only ones who use Disney reusable bags when we get back home? Grocery shopping = way more fun with Mickey!)
One side of the bag highlights the Disney Company’s commitment to the environment, citing the bag’s 80% construction from recycled plastic bottles and providing the web address for Disney’s environmental stance.
A tag shares even more information about this initiative.
Free plastic bags are still available at World of Disney, but honestly, we think of these reusable bags as a functional souvenir, so we’re happy they’re available!

I have several reusable bags that I got from WDW over the years and I use them frequently.

I love the new bags! So happy to see Disney step up more visibly for the environment, and they are great gift wrap substitutes. I do have a question though: for the items that are sent back to your room-are they the reusable bags or the plastic ones? Also, I wonder when they will be coming to more shops.
DFB Sarah says
Jolene, that’s a great question. We haven’t heard… but now I’m curious!
Jolene Correll says
I will be there in a few days and will let you know!!!

Oh man, I really wished that they would make these look like the plastic bags. Or at least the old plastic bags for nostalgia.
DFB Sarah says
Kristina, that’s a cool idea!

So thrilled that Disney is taking greater strides to reduce their environmental impact. I am all for reusable straws (#finalstraw) and reusable bags. Will for sure be getting a couple of the small bags. Fold and roll one and stuff in a pocket for later use.
Brandon says
Okay. So to be clear, they DO still have plastic bags?
Because as cute as these things are, I really don’t want to have to carry around a backpack full of bags every time I go to Downtown Disney or into the parks just to carry souvenirs. I’d rather just not buy souvenirs.
Grandma in Minnesota says
The reusable bags are a great idea for those that live near the parks or Disney Springs but coming from Minnesota, I am not going to pay the airlines for shopping bags in my luggage. I usually try to collect my purchase and mail most of them home and carry only the gifts that I will need stepping off the plane. Just fyi, I do use reusable bags at home so that is not the issue.
DFB Sarah says
Brandon, they still have plastic bags.
Lucy says
Great. How are they going to address the fact that these reusable bags have to be reused hundreds of times for it to be a net gain for the environment? These bags will not be used for shopping hundreds of times per bag. This is just a feel good measure that will have no effect. Like the straw ban. And the room security checks.
Denise says
I also would like to know if merchandise sent to resort rooms will be in one of these bags?
DFB Sarah says
Denise, as far as we know, merchandise sent to rooms is still in plastic bags.
Fred says
Disney can increase the prices to give me the bag “free”. I will Not purchase this bag for my store purchase. I will opt to not buy the item instead. That will “save the environment” and save me a bundle of money.

So I went to a local Disney store and I was asked if I wanted to purchase a reusable bag , I said no , as I have many including a Disney bag from last year. The items I purchased were wrapped in paper and handed to me. When I asked for a bag to put them in I was told they had no bags and if I wanted one I would have to purchase one at the price of 1.25. As I looked around I noticed everyone leaving the store had one. That’s a nice little extra profit for the store with no option to just have your purchase put in a regular store bag. as well if I had to pay for a bag I would have liked being given the option of the bag instead of the cheap bag I was given. With all dew respect for recycling I think people pay enough for Disney products without being forced to pay more for a bag.

I am not able to find the Reusable Bags anywhere. How can I order them? I always order them for my kids, and grandkids for Christmas
HELP
Thank you
Marlene
DFB Sarah says
Marlene, I’m not aware of a way to order the reusable shopping bags. You may find some on shopDisney, but I don’t know if the ones featured in this post would be on there.
