We’ve been exploring every inch of Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland over the last few out-of-this-world days. And today, the new land has officially opened to the public!
We have enjoyed scouring the galaxy to experience all that Black Spire Outpost has to offer so we could present you with honest reviews of the new land along with helpful tips so you can optimize your time.
From building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, to eating a Ronto Wrap at Ronto Roasters, and even hacking Blue and Green Milk, this truly is a unique and very immersive experience. But, as many of you know, Disney also loves to focus on the small details as well as the BIG ONES (we’re looking at you, Millennium Falcon). So Star Wars fans… listen to this.
Believe it or not, the Galaxy’s Edge exclusive gift cards (YES, the gift cards!) are quite possibly one of the most unique items on offer!
Galaxy’s Edge gift cards are a metal chip etched with the symbol of Black Spire Outpost! It is made to look like Batuuan Spira, which is the ancient currency of Black Spire Outpost. (SO! COOL!)
Now… the minimum amount that can be loaded on the chip is $100.00. But honestly, after seeing it for ourselves we think that it’s so worth it. And if you’re planning on dropping some Galactic Credits during your time in Galaxy’s Edge anyway, then why not? Because after all, once it’s loaded, it works just like a regular gift card (and the text says it can be used “wherever the Disney Gift Card is accepted.”)
We suggest you purchase yours at the beginning of your day on the planet Batuu at a merchandise location like Droid Depot (that’s where we got ours) and use it as you experience the land. Then, once it’s empty, you’ll be left with a pretty rad souvenir.
To use it, all you have to do is scan it, much like a MagicBand (for Disney World folks) or Apple pay.
And then? Well, from Blue Milk to Porgs to Droids to Lightsabers and beyond… you’ll have no shortage of places to spend your Galactic Credits from there!

Disney Genie+ is available at Disney World now -- here's how to purchase it!
Can it be used throughout the resort and is it reloadable?
Dina, yes to both!
So basically it’s a “free” souvenir because let’s be honest, who isn’t going to spend at least $100.00 at Disneyland?
Can I buy it before we go???
Robin, at this time, they’re only available in-world (meaning in Galaxy’s Edge).
have they been seen anywhere other than droid depot?
Hi, I collect different Disney gift cards and would like one. Can some one buy 2 of these and sell me the used ones. Will pay $20 for helping out plus postage. Thanks
Niki, we did see them throughout the land!
Xmas gifts for both of our adult kiddos! (Yep, planning a trip without them 😉 )
Does anyone know if they sell out?
Eugene, they weren’t sold out when we were there, but it’s possible they could.
Once you have brought one, what the expiry date on them – weeks, months, years? Thinking of birthday gift for the kids ready for next years trip, but friends would need to buy them this year.
CAN YOU BUY ONE ON LINE WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO MYGRANDSON WHENHE GOES TO DISNEY WORLD IN NOV FOR HIS B DAY
Sue, I don’t see them online at ShopDisney. Perhaps a reseller carries them online?
Has anyone successfully used the scan like a magic band feature with one yet? I bought one mainly for that reason & it hasn’t worked. When I asked the cast members about it most had no clue it was even supposed to do that. Those that did know said no one has actually used one in front of them yet lol.
Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Some tills – like parking booths do not accept them…. but all others with a scanner at the till do… even at Disney springs stores… you may have to tell them to scan it though… many have not seen them before 😀
Do they expire? Can they be topped up once you spent the original amount on it?
Karen, you can add more money to the card!
