Today’s a HUGE day at Walt Disney World, and one of the biggest events of the day is the release of Disney’s new plant-based dining options and green leaf logo!
We told you about this logo and new menu items last week (read about them here), and today, Walt Disney World is rolling out its plant-based quick service updates! While checking out the NEW varieties of beignets at Scat Cat’s Club Cafe at Port Orleans — French Quarter this morning, we also spied a new Plant-based Mickey-shaped Waffles option in Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. See that lil’ leaf logo next to the Plant-Based Mickey Waffles? The logo is small on the digital menu boards you’ll find in most quick service spots, so if you’re foraging for your plant-based options, you’ll want to know what to look for.
We’re not ones to pass up a Mickey Waffle in any form, but we were especially excited to try the plant-based version. For $9.99 (the same price for traditional Mickey Waffles), diners receive three mini Mickey Waffles, mixed berry compote, and a side of fruit.
The waffles feature our favorite mouse’s cheerful face — as required by Disney food law (which we just created ourselves) — and they’re still pressed to golden brown.
As anyone knows who’s tried vegan baked goods where egg is substituted, these were a smidge gummier than we’re used to. The texture didn’t ruin the experience of the Mickey Waffles, but it was noticeable. Still, the plant-based Mickey Waffles are satisfying and taste very close to the traditional version. Hoorah for Mickey Waffles our vegan friends can eat!
The berry compote was a bright addition to the dish. Our only complaint is that we would’ve liked a little more.
Of course, you can also get a tub (or two) of Breakfast Syrup, too!
The “diced” fruit on the side is the typical side of chopped fruit you can pick up in most grab-and-go coolers. No complaints!
But the breakfast plant-based news doesn’t end with Mickey Waffles! (You came for the Mickey Waffles, but stick around for the OTHER menu items!) We spotted several new plant-based breakfast items on quick service Resort menus! At Contempo Cafe at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, diners can order a Breakfast Tofu Bowl with mung bean scramble, “sausage” crumbles, grilled tofu, veggies, and cheddar. (They can also order a side of Breakfast Potatoes.)
Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is offering two plant-based options. The first is Avocado Toast topped with an omelet, arugula, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese crumbles, and sour cream drizzle. (Note that this isn’t vegan due to the dairy used, so if you’re watching for that, be sure to ask when ordering!) The second option is a Power Breakfast Bowl with potatoes, vegan sausage, red pepper, and plant-based eggs.
Mara at Animal Kingdom Lodge — Jambo House has a Safari Bobotie with plant-based egg and sausage, mushrooms, onions, and spinach — served with chakalaka sauce!
At Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music, diners can select from a Chipotle Seitan Scramble with arugula, peppers, and onions or Overnight Oats with Blueberries and Walnuts.
And at Saratoga Springs’ Artist Palette, a new Harvest Breakfast Sandwich with plant-based sausage and egg is served up on a ciabatta roll.
We’ll be watching for more options and bringing you reviews of some new plant-based items as they are introduced throughout the Parks and Resorts. And let us know in the comments when you try something you love (or loathe) from the new menus! For now, we “leaf” you until the next time, our veggie-loving food friends!
