It was BUSY in Disney Springs today. It was so busy, in fact, that we experienced something we have yet to see: a virtual queue to access a retail store!
With wait times for World of Disney topping off at SIX HOURS, it’s clear that Disney fans were ready to shop. Let’s recap what our experience was like today, and what we may be able to expect in the future as the theme parks reopen!
Upon arriving at Disney Springs this morning, there was already a wait to get into World of Disney before the store had even opened. Guests would check in with a Cast Member, who will check you into the virtual queue.
At one point this morning we were seeing reports of an hour-long wait just to get to the front of the line to JOIN the virtual queue, so definitely plan ahead! Once your turn comes up, a text message is sent to your phone letting you know it’s time to shop! We were told by a Cast Member that you have thirty minutes to check in after receiving the text message.
This system worked well in our experience as we were able to explore other parts of Disney Springs while we waited for our turn to enter World of Disney. So, if you’re craving a Dole Whip, Mickey Pretzel, or a bucket of popcorn, you can check all of those out while you wait “in line.” Once you are allowed into World of Disney, there is no time limit for you to shop.
It is unclear at this time if virtual queues will be implemented in the parks’ retail stores. But Disney has shared previously that they are considering using virtual queues for more experiences when the parks reopen. You can read more about that here.
As Disney continues to share new processes pertaining to the reopening we will be sure to let you know. And if you have any questions, please let us know!
