Although we may be gearing up for the parks to reopen soon, you’re going to want to take a well-needed movie night at home with the next big Disney+ arrival!
According to Deadline, The One and Only Ivan will be joining the list of Disney movies sent straight to Disney+! While Artemis Fowl and Hamilton will both appear on the streaming service, The One and Only Ivan will also make its way onto Disney+ starting August 21st.
Although the film was originally supposed to head to theaters on August 14th, director Thea Sharrock has stated that “The world has changed in a heartbeat. People all over the globe have shared important, life changing experiences in ways we have not seen for a century. In response to this, I am so happy that we can share Katherine Applegate’s delightful and original story, The One and Only Ivan with the world this August on Disney+, bringing some joy through this unique movie of true friendship, inspired by a true story.”
The movie will follow an unlikely friendship between 400-pound silverback gorilla Ivan and a baby elephant named Ruby. As Ivan finds out that Ruby was separated from her family to be brought to their communal habitat in the shopping mall, he starts to wonder what the meaning of life is and how he fits into this world.
The movie adapted from Katherine Applegate’s Newbery Medal Award-winning book will feature the voices of Angeline Jolie, Danny DeVito, and Bryan Cranston when the film arrives on Disney+ soon. Although movie theaters are looking to reopen their doors to guests sometime soon, we’re still VERY excited to watch The One and Only Ivan at home when it arrives!
