Streaming is a pretty big deal nowadays.
Take Disney, for example! The Walt Disney Company has made a major switch to a focus on streaming in the past year and announced over 100 new streaming titles. Well, audiences are definitely tuning in and two Disney+ titles brought MAJOR viewership at the end of 2020.
The Nielsen Company periodically releases data on the most-streamed titles across lots of major streaming platforms (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime). Typically, this results in a top ten list of all Netflix titles — but not this time!
The top ten streaming titles for the last week of 2020 (December 21st to December 27th) included TWO Disney+ titles. The Mandalorian came in as the fifth most-streamed title with 1,024,000,000 minutes streamed. That’s a lot of zeroes.
And, beating out the supremely popular The Office AND Bridgerton on Netflix, Soul was the most streamed title OVERALL with 1,669,000,000 minutes streamed. Holy MOLY. Looks like a lot of folks were looking to find their spark!
For reference, both of these titles were streamed for over a billion minutes. Do you know how long a billion minutes is? 1,902 YEARS. So…we really like our streaming, huh?
