The world is constantly evolving when it comes to handling COVID-19.
And as the rollout of the vaccine continues, more analysis is being done. Disney has set many safety policies and procedures, which are also evolving as the coronavirus situation changes. Soon, there may be a shift in CDC guidelines that could potentially impact Disney’s current distancing requirements.
According to Axios, the CDC is analyzing data that suggests 3 feet is sufficient for social distancing “under certain circumstances.” A study on Massachusetts public schools found “no substantial difference” in COVID-19 cases when comparing a 3-foot social distancing policy with a 6-foot one. The CDC will launch its own study in response to these results.
Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that it “it won’t be very long” before the CDC can adjust official social distancing guidelines — depending on the results of the study.
Changes in these safety guidelines could also affect Disney World’s own social distancing policies, but there has been no indication yet that these will change.
Update: According to CNBC, the CDC has recently revised its guidance for social distancing in schools. Its updated recommendations, which apply to K-12 students, now state that most students can sit 3 feet apart (instead of 6 feet) as long as they are wearing masks.
But, in communities where COVID-19 transmission is high, the CDC recommends that “middle school and high school students remain at least six feet apart if schools aren’t able to keep students and teachers in assigned groups.” For elementary schools, where “younger children have been shown to be at less risk of transmitting the virus than teens,” kids can stay safe as long as they are 3 feet apart with masks, according to the CDC’s updated guidance.
But, the CDC continues to recommend at least 6 feet of distance between adults in schools, and between adults and students. Six feet social distancing is also still recommended in common areas, when eating, when doing indoor activities, and in settings outside of the classroom.
We’ll keep you posted as we receive more updates. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news!
