During your last Disney World trip, you might have seen a lot of construction walls in EPCOT’s Future World!
This big section that’s been blocked off seems to be the site for Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana. This will be interactive exploration trail that features lush plant life and playful water features! Now, we can look behind the walls and show you what’s going on inside!
Journey of Water has not received an opening date. 2021 was briefly mentioned in a description on shopDisney, but that information was quickly removed. with no replacement announced. Now, we’re getting a look behind the walls at the ongoing construction for the first time thanks to @bioreconstruct on Twitter.
In this photo, you can see the whole site that is expected to be the Moana-themed trails! The left arrow is pointing at an excavation site, and the right arrow shows a recently-constructed above-ground concrete block.
So what is this newly added concrete block, you may ask? Your guess is as good as ours! Disney has been pretty tight-lipped about the exact details of the upcoming attraction.
It could be the beginnings of the structure seen below or for others like it.
Here is what can be seen when walking in the area at EPCOT.Â
And just in case you’re wondering, here is another look at what we can anticipate it looking like once complete.
We can’t wait to see and learn more about this project.
We will do our best to keep you posted on construction as it continues to progress.

wow, this is a massive project… much more than what I envisioned. I wish you photo could pull back because you cannot really get a sense of there this project is and in what relation it is to the existing. Cant really fit it in to my mind, cant see enough of the existing to see how this fits. Looks like the entire area between future world and the lake.
