Face masks are back once again in Walt Disney World.
The change comes after the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention announced new mask recommendations and Orange County, Florida (where most of Disney World is located) declared a State of Emergency earlier this week. Disney World announced Wednesday that face masks would be required for ALL individuals when indoors, including when entering and throughout all attractions, starting today. We’re at the parks to take a first look at the mask policy in action.
This new mask requirement applies to everyone ages 2 and up, even if you’re vaccinated. Before today, face masks were optional for vaccinated guests in all areas except for on most transportation. For non-vaccinated guests, face masks were required indoors and on transportation (which remains a requirement). Masks will continue to be optional outdoors at Walt Disney World and they are also not required on pool decks.

Previously, the CDC’s mask recommendations were that vaccinated individuals did not need to wear a mask indoors in most places. They have now been updated to recommend that vaccinated people resume wearing masks indoors in public in places with “high” or “substantial” COVID-19 transmission.
Now, let’s take a look at this new requirement in action around the parks. We saw that face mask signs were back up outside of Hollywood Studios reminding people to wear a mask indoors.
And outside of EPCOT!
Inside of stores, guests had their masks on again, like at The Emporium in Magic Kingdom.
And Cast Members have masks on too!
Cast Members were also stationed at the doors of stores to greet guests and remind them of the policy.
BUT there are also now signs on the outside of stores again to remind you to wear your mask, like at The Darkroom in Hollywood Studios.
Outside, some Cast Members had on masks, while others did not. According to Cast Members, it is encouraged for them to wear masks outdoors but it is not required.
A reminder that masks are not required outdoors for guests.
However, masks are required in line for and on all rides again, even if they’re outside. We saw people in line at Jungle Cruise wearing masks.
They also had masks on during the ride.
That’s a look at the new indoor mask policy around Walt Disney World Resort. We will update this post with the situation when it comes to attractions. Stay tuned for more Disney news and updates.
