Are you a shopaholic when you get into the Disney Parks?
We totally get it. With so much great merchandise it’s hard NOT to pull out your wallet. Today alone we’ve spotted a ton of new merchandise for the spooky season (like Halloween Crocs AND TWO new pairs of ears!). But there is a BIG change to Disney’s merchandise policy that you need to know… .
There’s a new limit on merchandise purchases that has been applied to the Halloween merchandise release in Magic Kingdom today! With this release, purchases are limited to two purchases, per item, per guest.
This merchandise limit only applies to the newly-released Halloween merchandise but it does apply to EVERYTHING in the release — ears, crocs, charms, Spirit Jerseys, pins, and everything else.
As a note, there may be some exceptions to the purchase limit when it comes to items that have different sizes.
Previously, the merchandise limit has been 10 items per guest, so this is a pretty significant change. It may be in an effort to make sure more guests have access to the Halloween collection!
We will definitely be checking in to see if this merchandise limit sticks around for future releases. Keep an eye on DFB to make sure you’re in the loop about ALL the Disney happenings!

I love DFB but I have to call a BIG BS to this one. Yeah, Disney says “Limit 2” but if you look at the photos from yesterday on WDWNT, there are hordes of people with bags filled with merchandise for scalping. They get around this by:
1. Going to multiple stores
2. Using every person in their party as a “shopper”, including children and infants
3. Re-entering the line and making completely new purchases
4. Leveraging guests to make purchases for them
5. Identifying cast members that don’t enforce this policy (happens often)
Disney needs to get serious about this and stop putting dollars over fairness. People pay lots of money to go to Disney, enjoy the experience, and shop. If all the hot items are sold out while being readily available on eBay, that is not a positive experience.
Fixing this is easy:
1. If guests use their DVC or APH discount, track it and make them ineligible for future purchases within so many days after a purchase of a limited item
2. Limits are on a ‘per household’ basis; passes and credit cards with the same address will be restricted after limit is reached.
3. Physically monitor guests and those that violate the terms or ‘spirit’ lose their park privileges for an extended period of time
4. Partner with eBay and other outlets to identify resellers that are violating the TOS as Disney guests and take appropriate action, including loss of park privileges

I think it’s great. We were there Monday when they were stocking the shelves with the new Disney Halloween shirts and a guy took all of shirts on the rack of 1 type of the new release Halloween shirts and left the shelf empty. I know Disney probably had more in the back room but it was the point of what he was doing. Unless he had a very large family those shirts were probably going up for sale on ebay. No one had a chance to purchase one at that particular time. When we came back later I didn’t see that design but there were other fun one hanging up.

I think that’s fair and I hope all businesses follow suit!

Another feel good measure. There’s so many ways around this making it meaningless
