Marvel’s Black Widow was one of the biggest releases of the year, with it being a critical and public success.
However, the movie wasn’t without controversy. Today, we have an update on the ongoing legal situation between Scarlett Johansson and Disney.
Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney, which argued that Disney breached their contract by releasing Black Widow through Disney+ at the same time as theaters, is in motion to become a private arbitration.
According to Variety, Disney has filed a motion to force this lawsuit into a private arbitration to decide if the actress is owed millions of dollars for Black Widow‘s hybrid release.
Disney argues that the film did better than other pandemic releases that had only theater releases and did very well given the circumstances. Meanwhile, Johansson’s team argues that Disney breached their agreement about the release of Black Widow in order to boost Disney+ and decrease her backend profits from the film.
