Perhaps this shortage is no big surprise since we have seen supply chain issues impacting everything from beef to various merchandise items in the parks. You may have already experienced the consequences of this shortage if you tried to make cheesecake this holiday season and were met with disappointment at the grocery store, or maybe you were living blissfully unaware of this national tragedy. Regardless, the cream cheese shortage is causing a nationwide stir, and it’s going to start affecting one popular Disney World snack.Â
Gideon’s Bakehouse has become a staple of Disney Springs with their delicious and creative baked goods. We’ve tried tons of stuff from Gideon’s like their Pumpkin Chai Nitro Cold Brew, the Frankenstein cookie, and their Lemon Poppyseed Cookie!

Another item you can get from Gideon’s is a slice of their GIANTÂ red velvet cake. Gideon’s has given us a few different ways to enjoy this treat, like their classic Red Velvet cake slices, as well as their Red Velvet Cake dip!
Red Velvet Cake
Unfortunately, this staple dessert is getting hit by this holiday season’s tragedy — the cream cheese shortage. Gideon’s uses a cream cheese filling in their Red Velvet Cake, and because of the shortage, the cake will be unavailable to purchase for a while.

Gideon’s recently shared that their Red Velvet Cake is going away for a “while” due to the shortage. We’re not sure how long a “while” is, but we’ll keep an eye out for more updates.

Well Gideon’s Red Velvet Cake, until we meet again. Our team was actually divided on this dessert, but those who loved it will surely be sad to see it go missing.

But it’s not all bad news. Gideon’s has shared that Red Velvet Cake Slices are on hiatus until the cream cheese shortage can be sorted out. But, starting on December 25th, 2021, Gideon’s started offering another cake in its place — the Golden Oreo Cake! According to Gideon’s, this will celebrate the “incoming wave of new vanilla-based cakes.”

There IS NO cream cheese shortage. Can’t be . Our store had a refrigerator case FULL of cream cheese for 99 cents. If anything, it is a distribution thing. Can’t get the product to Orlando.
Who cares. Gideons has been around a very short time and not part of our travel experience. If it was something in a dole whip that there is a shortage of, we would be concerned.
We use cream cheese for almost every dip we make over the holidays.
I noticed two weeks ago there was none so we got 8 or so we need at a different supermarket.
This week it is back. I think this time of year a lot more cream cheese is used. Plus, like everything else, things in general just aren’t there everytime. You have to grab it when it is there which only adds to the shortage.
I would imagine places like Disney and Universal that need to feed tens, if not hundreds of thousands would notice it more.
Should be plant based anyway.
