Every day, we’re thankful for Disney+!
Not only does it allow us to stream our favorite classic Disney movies over and over, but it also allows us to watch some of Disney and Pixar’s newest creations. In 2020, Pixar released two films on the platform, Onward, and Soul, and this past summer we were treated to Luca! Now there’s been a big announcement about Pixar’s next upcoming movie.
Disney and Pixar’s upcoming film, Turning Red, was previously set to premiere in theaters. But today Disney announced that Turning Red will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on March 11!
According to a press release sent via email from Disney, the decision to stream the film instead of making it available in theaters is the result of the delayed box office recovery, especially for family movies, along with flexibility.
Kareem Daniel, the Chairman of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution said, “Given the delayed box office recovery, particularly for family films, flexibility remains at the core of our distribution decisions as we prioritize delivering the unparalleled content of The Walt Disney Company to audiences around the world.”
So microwave some popcorn and build a pillow-fort, because Pixar’s latest feature film is coming to your living room! The movie will be FREE for Disney+ subscribers to stream.
Not familiar with Turning Red? The movie follows Mei Lee — “a confident, dorky 13-year-old” who “’poofs’ into a giant red panda” whenever she gets too excited.
