Disney World has seen some BIG changes lately!
Traditional character meet and greets are back, masks are not required in most places anymore, and entertainment like the Magic Kingdom stage show has returned. So, with all of these big changes, it might be easy to overlook small changes that happen, but you KNOW we’re always on the lookout for anything new that happens at Disney World. And, we just recently saw that a small change has happened at the Disney World hotels!
The refillable mugs at the Disney World Resort hotels have NEW lids!
Aren’t they fun?! These new lids are obviously shaped like Mickey…
…and come in 2 different color variations!
Here’s a closer look!
NEW ‼️ Resort refillable mugs have made their way to Disney World hotels! I think I need all four? ✨ pic.twitter.com/Xe99sXD1GD

This is what the lids looked like previously:
They didn’t have much going on — we’d say these new lids are a major improvement!
And we KNOW you want to see what these look like flipped open!
But, the best part? These mugs are still the same price with the new lids — $19.99!
If you buy one of these mugs at a Disney World hotel, you can get unlimited free refills of fountain drinks, coffee, and tea at any of the resort self-service beverage locations during your entire stay! They can be a really good deal if you drink a lot of these beverages.

Of all those pictures of the new lids, there isn’t one with the top flipped up so I can see how/if my reusable straw will fit.
Pat says
If you don’t have a straw, won’t the flipped up top hit you on your nose?
Mary says
I see that you can use these for coffee and tea refills, but does anyone know if that includes iced coffee and tea? Thanks!
Jim S. says
These look great! I hope the thinner area where the ears connect does not become a stress and wear point a few months after purchase. The current lids are very durable.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Pat! It does look that way, but the top will flip all the way over to the other side so you’re not bumping your nose every time you go to take a sip.
Kylie says
Hi, do the Disney Springs Hotels (specifically Wyndham) sell Disney refillable mugs? Does anyone know?? Thanks
Trader Dave says
Call me an old-timer, but I still prefer the mugs that were themed to the resort hotel. I’ve got a cabinet full of the OG Wilderness Lodge mugs, and they’re still better than what they sell now. With those mugs, they used to say you could even bring them back on subsequent trips, and I’ve asked cashiers on recent trips if they would honor them, but sadly no. Probably partly because of the sensor chips in the new ones.
Charles says
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m at my resort in the morning and the evening. I sometimes visit other resorts, but not so frequently that this is even worth it.
When are they going to make the mug refillable in the parks? Then I’ll buy one.
Robin Hunt says
Does anyone know if you can reactivate a refill mug previously purchased at Disney World rather than having to get a new one each time you stay? Hope these leak less that the ones we upgraded to with Star Wars & Disney Skyliner on cause they leaked a lot.
It’s like Disney bands it’s cool having choice but I don’t want loads of them at home
DFB Gigi says
Hi Robin! The refillable mugs are only good for the length of your stay. There is a sensor in each mug and you will not be able to refill mugs from a previous visit, unfortunately. 🙁
Frank Haney says
Yes you can get Ice tea as a refill. But there are some catches to refills not covered here. I ran into this one because I like to Drink and Arnold Palmer. For those that do not know that is half Ice Tea and Half Lemonade.
When I did this on a recent trip I found that I could not get a second mug of my preferred mix.
It seems that there is a limit on the number of times the mug can be refilled in a given time frame. All that is registered is that you filled up once at the Ice Tea, Than a second refill at the Lemonade. So that is counted as two refills although you only got one full mug. On the 3rd refill of Tea it was OK, But not with the 4th for the lemonade. The machine said that I had to wait Refill exceeded.
So my drinking a mug of Arnold Palmer for dinner and refilling the mug to go to the room was not possible with my preferred drink.
Otherwise I think the mugs are a great money saver, If you get 5 drinks during your stay, you paid for the mug. Our normal stay is 7 days (cross country from Washington State) a drink each morning and a mug for the bus, a drink in the evening and one for the room makes 4 a day. Money in the bank.
Frank Haney says
Robin, No you are not able to reactivate a used mug. Sorry. The chip times out after 2 weeks
Frank Haney says
Trader Dave. I agree. I liked the old mugs. Most had the resort you were staying at, Or the ones sold in the Parks had the current theme. Spring Break, Halloween, Christmas and so on. I have more than 50 of the mugs. I was getting one from each resort we stayed in and we try to stay if a different resort on each visit.
No more, now all the mugs are the exact same no matter what resort. I assume it cost less to produce the mugs in mass. WE know Disney is all about the cost cutting. Just another example of the small magic slipping into history
Jean says
I. Eli eve the cups were part of the food plan WIll they be bringing that back anytime soon as we are planning a trip in the fall
Arlene says
Every mug I have bought leaks. Not worth it unless you spend a lot of time in resort. If they could be used in park, totally worth it.
Danielle says
I wish those Lids would have been out when I was there in April!
Pauline Appleton says
Just got ours from El Centro at Coronado Springs we got the yellow cup with blue Mickey ears . Am very pleased with mine and my black Jeffrey’s coffee tastes as wonderful as ever.
Xiomary Sosa says
Will be visiting for the first time soon, and I am interested in these mugs for my family. Are they prone to leaking? The previous lids look less likely to leak than the new Mickey lids.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you!
Frank Haney says
Xiomary,
If you are speaking about the refillable resort mugs you purchase at your hotel…. They are pretty secure. The new flip top mickey ear shaped closures are not as good as the old twist type. However even those would leak if on their side.
WE only used them at the resort hotels. Otherwise, we had a water bottle that we carried in our backpacks. The screw on lids is secure and you can refill them for free at stations throughout the parks.
There is a fun refill station in Star Wars land that has a creature that pops up while you are refilling from the tank. There is also a refill station on smugglers run and mid-way through flight of Avatar in Animal Kingdom.
Remember that ALL quick service restraunts will give you free water. So never buy water.
