Disney is no stranger to supply shortages. We’ve seen issues with bubble wand shortages, and the Monte Cristo sandwich was even taken off the menu at the Plaza Restaurant due to a turkey shortage.
More recently, we’ve seen the ramifications of the Jif peanut butter recall in the parks as some desserts and food items with peanut butter were not available. And now, there’s another ingredient shortage that may lead to missing menu items in the Disney parks.
One of the biggest suppliers of hot sauce, Huy Fong, Inc. recently announced that shoppers should expect a shortage of their hallmark product, Sriracha, according to CNN.
The shortage is due to an unexpected failure with the spring’s chili crop harvest, and the company said it would not be accepting any new orders on its products before September. The shortage will affect not only the Sriracha sauce, but also two other products made by Huy Fong, Inc. the Chili Garlic and Sambal Oelek products.
Not only does this shortage mean that it might be harder to find Sriracha at your local grocery store, it might be harder to find it in Disney World, too. Packets of Sriracha at condiment bars may become unavailable, and food items containing sriracha might not be available or can only be purchased without Sriracha.
Sriracha is an ingredient used in the Disney parks on items like burgers and sandwiches, and is available in packets as an individual condiment in some locations (the same way ketchup and mustard are available). We haven’t yet seen the effects of this shortage in the Disney parks, but we’ll be on the lookout for menu changes in the parks as a result of the halt in Sriracha production.
In other Disney World food news, Victoria & Albert’s finally has a reopening date at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! The restaurant will have an enhanced menu and the dining room design has been reimagined! Reservations will be available soon, so be sure to snag them if you want to visit this high-end restaurant.
