To ensure we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report on all travel, safety, and COVID-related news that could impact a Disney Parks visit.
Although many things in the world have returned to a new level of “normal,” the entertainment industry has continued to evolve as COVID-19 affects performers and audiences alike, especially on Broadway.
Broadway closed down in March 2020 and reopened 18 months later with several COVID-19 protocols in place. As of now, Broadway still requires all audience members to wear masks, although many theaters dropped their proof of vaccination requirement back in May. However, their policy is changing very soon, and here’s what you need to know.
The Broadway League announced that they will be lifting their mask requirement for audience members in July, making masks an optional choice, according to WESH. CNBC reported that all 41 Broadway theaters will adopt this new policy.
The Broadway League said that they will evaluate this new policy “on a monthly basis as we continue to monitor the science,” and “audience members are still encouraged to wear masks in theaters.” This change comes after Broadway producers have attributed low ticket sales to the mask ban.
Recently, NBC New York reported that New York City health officials have downgraded the COVID-19 risk level to medium, which means masks are encouraged around people with unknown vaccination statuses.
Disney World also recently dropped all mask requirements for guests, although this could always change depending on the future of potential COVID-19 surges. It’s a good idea to review mask requirements depending on where you’re traveling so that you’re prepared for anything! And keep following DFB for more news and updates!
