We’re just a few days away from the release of the Avatar sequel!
Finally, after 13 years since the original movie was released, Avatar: The Way of Water will be coming to theaters, and there are a lot of expectations. The first film was one of the biggest box office successes of all time and even inspired its own land in Animal Kingdom. But will things in Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney World be changing with the second movie?
The director of the Avatar movies, James Cameron, recently did an interview with Variety to discuss the upcoming film. Cameron mentions the inspiration for the film, as well as some of the methods of filming that the team used to capture an authentic aquatic lifestyle, but perhaps the most interesting tidbit from the interview was a mention of how to fit the movie into Disney World’s Avatar Flight of Passage ride.
James Cameron said in the interview, “When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do Avatar 2 and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of Avatar Flight of Passage.” Cameron added, “He liked that idea. So nothing has been decided. But, you know, we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies. Because I think there’s a good synergy between the physical base where you can go and just kind of meditate and be on Pandora and how the movies progress the story and bring in new imagery.”
So it’s possible that we could see Flight of Passage updated with scenes and creatures from future films. (Like how Disney World updated Star Tours with scenes from the newer Star Wars movies.) We’ll have to wait and see!
We’ll be on the lookout for any news about the possibility of updating Flight of Passage. And if you’re interested to see how Avatar: The Way of Water performs at the box office, we’ll give you details on that as well!

What they really need to do for Flight of Passage is make it more plus sized friendly. The back panels have to be clicked to a certain point in order to lock, but a larger body could still be secured safely if it just had a little more room before that lock in click. And those leg restraints are murder on anyone with big calves, whether fat OR muscle. It could stand to be more forgiving.

I hope if they update the ride they figure out how larger people can ride the ride. It really is unfair that so many of the really cool new rides are inaccessible to larger people.

What they really need to do is bring some version of Flight of Passage to Disneyland or California Adventure!
