Nacho fries. 🍟 They are a popular fast-food item but are NOT a permanent menu item.
In the past, we have seen Taco Bell bring back retired items and make other menu changes. But what will happen with the beloved nacho fries?! Well, they could be sticking around longer than you think!
According to CNN, Taco Bell has indicated that, to compete with other fast-food giants like McDonald’s, they are considering making fries a permanent menu item! (AND THE CROWD WENT WILD!)
Mark King, the CEO of Taco Bell, revealed “People that go to lunch want to have French fries. We know that. So we’re looking at and testing bringing fries permanently on to the menu, which would increase our lunch business dramatically.” This could really help Taco Bell level the playing field.
Nacho fries were first introduced in 2018. Since then, Taco Bell has brought them back periodically. King shared, “we offer fries half the time.” They’ve also tested other fry-based items like their seven-layer nacho fries.
Some wonder whether making nacho fries a permanent part of the menu is a good idea. Part of the appeal of items like nacho fries is the buzz around them only being available for short periods of time. But the company is interested in expanding its reach during the lunch rush, and Mark King believes fries are the key.
According to King, Taco Bell is “absolutely even” with McDonald’s at dinner and late night. But Taco Bell is “significantly behind” at breakfast and lunch. King noted that Taco Bell also plans to “commit to breakfast” to help them really compete with McDonald’s in that category too.
Taco Bell brought back Mexican Pizzas and, according to CNN, they saw “some success.” Taco Bell sold 20 million Mexican pizzas between May and June. It became permanent in the fall.
This all may sound exciting, but don’t go rushing to Taco Bell just yet! They haven’t made any official announcements about fries in terms of whether they’ll officially become a permanent part of the menu or even exactly what sorts of fries they’ll have, but we’ll keep an eye out for updates.
