Southwest Airlines has been in the news a lot recently.
This week we saw staggering numbers of Southwest flight cancellations, and the airlines canceled upwards of 60-70% of their flights. The CEO has shared a statement regarding these cancellations.
A few days ago, the CEO of Southwest Airlines, Bob Jordan, released a public apology video. You can watch some of that video below.
Speaking to both customers and employees, he explained that the company is doing “everything they can to return to a normal operation.” Jordan described Southwest employees as “heroic,” working during a high-traffic travel season where over 60% of flights were getting canceled and travelers were stranded with few options for reaching their destinations.
FlightAware showed on December 26th, 2022, a massive amount of delays and cancellations from the airline. You can read more about all of these cancellations here.
Jordan explained that their network is “highly complex” and that a large amount of aircraft and flight crews were “out of position” in their network. Southwest is stating that this confusion within their schedule was difficult to correct and the simplest way to reset was to cancel flights. The CEO hopes the company will never face a situation like this again, and that their plan for the upcoming days is “to fly a reduced schedule and reposition our people and planes” and that’s he’s optimistic that they will return to a normal schedule next week.
We will be sure to keep our readers updated on travel information for both Southwest and other airlines as they are published, so stay tuned to our site for the latest!
