If you’re heading to EPCOT on you’re next Disney trip, you’ll notice it is big.
It’s the second largest park at Disney World after Animal Kingdom, and there are tons of things to do, especially during one of its many festivals. Between dining reservations and Lightning Lanes, Disney makes it possible to plan out your day efficiently — but sometimes disruptions are unavoidable. Recently, we were making our way around the World Showcase when we hit one of those snags, and we’re here to warn you about it!
If you’ve ever walked around the World Showcase, you might have noticed something that not every guest even knows exists. Near the Refreshment Outpost, there is a bridge to the China Pavilion — but it’s not an ordinary bridge! It’s actually a drawbridge that allows Cast Members to get from backstage to the barges in World Showcase Lagoon.
While this is a pretty cool tidbit, if you’re not expecting it, it can throw a small wrench in your plans. For instance, we got stuck behind it!
Here’s something you don’t see everyday…drawbridge is up! pic.twitter.com/Pmy7S1lwhC

We noticed while we were waiting that there was a boat with Cast Members making their way out to the barges, so it’s possible they were setting something up for the fireworks.
We found the culprit for the drawbridge being raised! pic.twitter.com/JYBgEaJOPn

This drawbridge usually goes up and down fairly quickly, but if you happen to be going in that direction to get to a reservation — make sure you’re prepared for this in case it happens! You might want to give yourself some extra time so this doesn’t make you late.

It is strange that there is really only one entry/exit point to the World Showcase Lagoon… the drawbridge. With Disney’s attention to detail and planning is is strange to note that there is no back up entry/exit;oint. You can not count the international Entrance entrance that connects to Boardwalk, because it does not connect to the maintenance area behind the Africa. The lack of redundancy is strange for Disney.
