Disney Genie is a complimentary service within Disney World’s My Disney Experience app and the Disneyland app. Disney Genie provides on-the-go planning tools and customized itineraries to help guests maximize their time in the Disney World theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), and the Disneyland Resort theme parks (Disneyland and Disney California Adventure). 

PLEASE BE AWARE: The skip-the-line service that was previously Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Disney World, and Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Disneyland. On this page, we cover the FREE Disney Genie features that remain in the My Disney Experience app and the Disneyland app. 

Disney Genie — FREE Customized Itineraries

While the My Disney Experience app and Disneyland app provide plenty of tools for advance planning (along with several features for use while in the parks and resorts), the Disney Genie — which is available within each app — provides customized itineraries for your park days with just a few taps on your smartphone.

You can access these features when you “Summon Disney Genie” from the home screen of the app, as seen above.

Or, once you purchase theme park tickets or have booked any Advance Dining Reservations or experiences tied to a specific date, you can “summon” Disney Genie by selecting “Add Preferences,” as seen above!

Pre-Planning Using Disney Genie

Guests can use the Disney Genie in the parks without accessing the pre-planning features; however, you can customize your preferences before you visit a theme park to have a more personalized experience. Before you can access Disney Genie’s pre-planning features, there are a few things you need: 

1. A free Disney account;
2. The latest version of the My Disney Experience app or the Disneyland app on your smart phone;
3. A valid Disney theme park ticket (and Park Pass reservation, if applicable).

Once you log in and “Summon Disney Genie” from the home screen of the My Disney Experience app, you’ll have the opportunity to look through a brief Disney Genie primer: 

To begin crafting your day in the park, select “Start Now.” From here, you will select the date of your park visit first:

Then will will choose the park you will visit on that date.

Next, you will confirm all your party members. Make sure your entire group is linked in your Disney account so everyone can access your shared plans!

From here, you can “tell the Genie your wishes” — or your Top Picks — when it comes to three major categories: Attractions, Entertainment, and Dining! In our example, we have chosen Disney World’s EPCOT as the park we are visiting. You can scroll through the entire list under the Attractions icon and add a check to all of your Must-Rides. 

Ditto goes for Entertainment options. Be aware that Character Meet-and-Greets fall under the Category of Entertainment, along with fireworks spectaculars, live music, and more. 

You can also check out all of the eateries in the park and select your top choices under Dining!

Next, you can inform the Genie of additional preferences under My Interests. These include more general headings such as Disney Favorites (which include Character Groups such as Disney Princesses or film franchises like Star Wars).

Use Park Interests to identify specific types of experiences that apply to or are of interest to your group, such as Experiences for Little Ones, Thrill Rides, Parades, and Seasonal Offerings.

Finally, Dining Interests let you select restaurant service styles and experiences that are of interest to you, which is especially helpful if you don’t have any specific restaurants in mind yet. Choose from categories including Character Dining, Fine/Signature Dining, Quick Service, and more.

So, those are the things you can take care of in advance of your Disney World or Disneyland theme park visit. And next, you’ll see how your “wishes” are “granted” when you’re in the parks…

Using Disney Genie in the Parks

Disney Genie will make personalized recommendations based on which park you’re visiting, nearby experiences, and personal preferences using the information you’ve provided to evaluate thousands of options and build a plan just for YOUR traveling group. You’ll receive a customized itinerary which takes into account your priorities (be they specific like a must-ride attraction or broad like your child’s love of Disney Princesses) to build the perfect itinerary for your group.

And if your day changes — or as the day changes regarding what’s going on in the parks — the Genie can change, too! Real-time tips, updates, and recommendations are provided, and the Disney Genie is even able to assist with any needed reservations for your whole group!

This keeps you in the loop on attraction status, showtimes, dining availability, and current standby wait times and forecasted attraction wait times.
