When we think of classic Disney rides, we’re sure to think of “it’s a small world,” Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jungle Cruise.
But if you’re thinking in terms of Disneyland, you’ll also consider the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which opened there in 1959. That ride is so classic that it even has its own cookie! Well, if you’re visiting Disneyland soon, you’ll need to know that the Matterhorn Bobsleds will soon close for refurbishment.
According to the Disneyland website, the Matterhorn Bobsleds will be closing on April 17th for a refurbishment. So if you had plans to ride this attraction, you’ll need to do so before then!
Did you know that the origins of the Matterhorn come from a pile of dirt left behind by the excavation of Sleepy Beauty Castle’s moat when Disneyland was being built? Imagineers decided to turn that pile of dirt into a mountain based on the Swiss Alps, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds was born. To date, Disneyland is the ONLY Disney park that has a Matterhorn Bobsleds ride, so you have to go to California to try it out.
Another little bit of Matterhorn trivia: the original Abominable Snowman in the ride was named Harold, and wasn’t added to the Matterhorn Bobsleds until 1978. Also, there is a basketball court at the top of the ride. You know, in case Cast Members need to shoot some hoops to let off some steam.
Disney has not yet released an official reopening date for the Matterhorn Bobsleds, but we’ll keep an eye out and let you know when the ride will be available again. So be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!

I was out to Disneyland last September and this ride was down for repair .

Have been enjoying the Bobsleds since it opened. Rode it last year “new improved?” Ride. Worst ruffest ride ever. Not a fun experience. Even 11 years old were slightly sore from being tossed around. It’s just not the same cute alpine experience

I was there in September for the first time and it was down for the same reason. Really hoping its back up when I go in May. I’ve never ridden it!
