There are so many great things to take with you on a Disney trip.
Packing things like ponchos, umbrellas, and portable phone chargers can be really useful when you get caught in the Florida rain or your battery dies from being on My Disney Experience (the planning app for Disney) for too long. But did you know that there are things Disney prohibits from their parks and properties? Some of them are pretty obvious, but you might be surprised by others!
Let’s take a look at 6 items that you should NOT take with you on your next Disney trip.
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World soon, you’re probably doing all kinds of research! We have a video on things the PROS do in Disney World that might help! You can watch it right here!
Now let’s get to it! Here are 6 items specifically prohibited from Disney parks and properties — and for good reasons.
Knives
We understand that sometimes you need a knife to cut something like the apple you brought as a snack. But Disney prohibits knives and really any weapons on their property.
This makes sense and is for your and all other guests’ safety. Disney wants to ensure everyone has a fun and safe time in their parks, so please leave your own personal knives (and other weapons) at home.
Remember to cut your apple ahead of time and use the knives provided in the parks for responsible food cutting.
Selfie Sticks
Many people might not realize this, but selfie sticks are actually prohibited in the parks. Honestly, we’re pretty glad this is the case.
Selfie sticks have been known to get dropped on rides (like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster!) and tend to take away from the experience of attractions for other guests. It’s no fun sitting on Pirates of the Caribbean while trying to look at everything with a selfie stick in the way. Our tip is to just enjoy the ride. But if you must take pictures, please be respectful of the other guests around you.
Drones
Did you know that the airspace over Disney World is a “no-fly zone”? Yep, from the surface up to 3,000 feet above the ground, nothing is allowed to fly there unless they have special permission. This even includes drones.
Drones operated by guests can take away from the experience for others. They can also be a safety issue, and Disney is very particular about guest safety. So we suggest leaving the drone at home.
Fireworks
We know that some people (aka my dad) think they can put on a fireworks show just as good as Disney. But even if you love fireworks, you’ll have to leave them at home and put on your own show when you get back.
Just like knives and weapons, Disney prohibits all explosives and yes, that includes fireworks. Again, this is for the safety of their guests. But believe us, Disney has some pretty awesome nighttime fireworks shows! You certainly won’t want to miss one of their several shows featuring the fireworks!
Wagons
Okay, so wagons actually seem like they could be really useful in the parks. You could put the kiddos and all your merchandise in it and roll it around with you. But wagons are actually prohibited by Disney.
Wagons, trailers, or even strollers that are bigger than 31″ (79 cm) in width and 52″ (132 cm) in length are prohibited. There are so many people in the parks and crowds can get wild, so having these restrictions helps with crowd control and of course, once again, your safety during those busy times.
Be sure when you’re packing your stroller that it meets Disney’s guidelines or opt to rent one of theirs for the day and don’t bring a wagon. You won’t be allowed in if you do.
Folding Chairs
Another great idea that’s not allowed are folding chairs. There are so many times that we wish we could have brought one of these. From saving seats on the ground for watching fireworks to taking a break when all the benches are taken in the middle of the day.
But let’s be honest, hauling a folding chair around with us all day would be miserable (unless we had a wagon!). So while it might seem like a good idea, it probably isn’t, and they’re prohibited by Disney anyway. So that leaves us either searching for a park bench (which can be really challenging sometimes) or pulling up the best piece of cement nearby.
There you have it! 6 items you should NOT pack for your next Disney trip. Many are unrealistic and all are prohibited by Disney. Disney does provide a list of guidelines and prohibited items, so if you have any questions check that out. Instead, for a list of items you SHOULD bring with you to the park click here!
