Disney is working on a NEW streaming service and some big details have been released.
Disney has quarterly earnings calls each year, and in them, they discuss how the company has been performing and what their goals are for the year/the upcoming quarter. They also often give updates on what’s next. In the company’s 2023 Q4 earnings call, they shared that they had massive plans for ESPN, and now we’re starting to see that those plans are taking shape!
In the last 2023 earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger introduced “four key building opportunities” for The Walt Disney Company “that will be central to [its] success,” and one of those points was “building ESPN into the preeminent digital sports platform.”
Disney is also looking at ways of “allowing [them] to reach fans in compelling new ways and fully integrating key features into [their] primary ESPN offering.”
Just before the Q1 earnings call for fiscal year 2024, Disney announced that it would be starting a NEW streaming service for sports assets that’ll combine things from ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery. This service will be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, and each company will own one-third of the product.
During the earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke more about plans for ESPN. The full suite of ESPN’s channels will become a standalone and highly interactive streaming destination in Fall 2025. This will include ESPN Bet, ESPN’s sportsbook betting service that debuted in 2023.
This new streaming destination will also include shopping features, as well as robust personalization features.

Disney is excited to offer a more unified streaming experience when this standalone ESPN offering launches. It will also be made available on Disney+ for bundle subscribers, similar to what the company has already done with Hulu.
We’ll continue to look for updates about this streaming service, so stay tuned for more news.
Could an ESPN and Netflix merger solve Iger’s streaming worries?
