It’s almost time to go the distance.
The Disney Cruise Line is expanding at a rapid rate, with a whopping eight NEW ships on the way over the next seven years. One of those new ships, the Disney Destiny, will make its maiden voyage in 2025 and feature several new experiences, including a Broadway-quality show based on a classic Disney film.
As was announced at the 2024 D23 Ultimate Fan Event’s Horizons: Disney Experience Showcase panel, the Destiny will launch with a full-scale, Broadway-style production of Disney Hercules in November 2025. According to the company, this “lively retelling of the popular Walt Disney Animation Studios film will feature the iconic music and larger-than-life characters we all know and love from the original movie, presented in an all-new way.”
The show, which was developed exclusively for the ship, will “stay true to the story and spirit of the film while showcasing a bold, modern adaptation tailor-made for the stage.”
Disney also shared that the new show “will draw on the creative team’s extensive and diverse experience that ranges from theatre to pop music. Get ready for show-stopping musical numbers, incredible vocals, stunning visuals, immersive projection effects and so much more!”
That said, the show will still feature the Muses as the show’s Greek Chorus storytellers, and feature “all the beloved songs from the film” as well as the ballad “Shooting Star.” The show’s musical arrangements “will emphasize the pop and gospel influences that make this soundtrack iconic to so many fans.”
The Disney Destiny will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, and Disney revealed that the ship will have a first-of-its-kind design theme.
Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on the Disney Destiny’s roster of entertainment offerings.
