The change is thanks to their cutting-edge technological advancements and multi-layered security approach.

Basically they can now analyze footwear without needing you to strip down, so your sneakers, sandals, or Minnie-themed Crocs can stay firmly on your feet. It’s a small change, but if you’ve ever tried wrestling a toddler and a laptop and your shoes in the security line, you know it’s a game-changer.

Families Get Their Own Security Lanes

This one feels like it’s been a long time coming. TSA is officially expanding a program that started right at Orlando Airport—special “Families on the Fly” lanes. These are wider, less rushed security lines that give families a little more breathing room (and yes, a little more patience, too).

Think fewer glares when your toddler melts down or your diaper bag needs to be triple-scanned. These lanes are designed with strollers, baby bottles, and young kids in mind. There are even mobile sign-up stations in the terminals, so if you forgot to set it up ahead of time, you can still get it done on-site. These lanes work just like PreCheck: faster, less invasive screening with way shorter lines. TSA is planning to roll this out nationwide, but Orlando’s ahead of the curve here.

REAL ID Is Now Enforced—And Orlando Isn’t Playing Around

After years of delays and extensions, the REAL ID rule is officially live as of May 2025. That means if your state-issued ID doesn’t have the little star in the corner, you’re probably not getting through TSA without extra screening—or possibly not at all.

Don’t assume your regular license is enough just because it worked last year. A passport still works too, but if you’re relying on a standard driver’s license, make sure it’s REAL ID-compliant before you get to the airport.

The 3-1-1 Liquid Rule Might Be On Its Way Out

The days of rationing shampoo and praying your moisturizer doesn’t get flagged could be numbered. TSA is actively testing tech that might finally end the 3-1-1 liquids rule. That means bigger bottles, fewer plastic baggies, and one less rule to memorize at 4 AM.

Right now, it’s still in the testing phase, but Orlando is one of the key airports being considered for pilot programs.
