As of May 7th, 2025, anyone flying in the United States is required to provide a REAL ID as part of the check-in process before boarding their flight, if not using a passport. REAL IDs are state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards that meet the federal REAL ID security standards.

Previously, passengers without a REAL ID or a passport were required to go through additional screening to fly. But, a new rule has been proposed that would add a fee for travelers without a REAL ID.
If TSA PreCheck has zero fans, it means we’re dead. After all, it’s basically a Lightning Lane for airport security. Folks with TSA PreCheck get to skip the standby lines at airport security, all while skipping some of the other tasks typically required at security.

It’s been a little over one week since the United States government shutdown began on October 1st, and we’re beginning to see the repercussions — especially at airports.

Federal agencies and services that aren’t deemed “essential” by the government have halted, and while TSA officers and air traffic controllers are considered essential, many are calling in sick due to lack of pay, according to ABC News.
We can’t believe we’re even saying this, but the TSA is pleading with people to please “stop hiding animals in weird places on your body” after a woman was caught trying to smuggle two turtles in her bra.

In a social media post, TSA shared that a woman attempted to “take a pair of twin snappers” with her through airport security, and sadly, one of the turtles did not survive.

“Families on the Fly” will create dedicated security lines for families with small children, while the “Honor Lane” will expedite security checkpoints for military service members and their families.

This year, the TSA has shared a reminder for the holidays that you are welcome to bring solid foods such as cookies, cakes, pies, and brownies through security checkpoints at airports. However, if a food item you plan to take with you on a flight spills, spreads, sprays, pumps, or pours, you’ll need to pack it in your checked bag! They also suggest packing a bit of extra tissue paper in with your baked goods as extra padding as they are going through security. The TSA also shared that its officers love cookies and baked goods as much as anyone and five officers shared their personal cookie recipes!
Despite the luxuries and technologies we’re fortunate enough to experience in this day and age, traveling can still be a nightmare. Commercial air travel has come a long way since the days of the first powered flight but that doesn’t mean we’re not still working out the kinks.
