WARNING: Expect Hours-long Lines at TSA Security If You’re Flying Soon

Airport security lines are getting longer and longer due to the partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) — with no signs of relief anytime soon, according to CNN.

The department, which is responsible for overseeing the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at airports, posted photos of long lines at security checkpoints on social media, ultimately blaming Democrats for the situation. Homeland Security funding lapsed in mid-February due to a standoff between Republicans and Democrats over federal immigration reform.

Is TSA PreCheck Actually Closed? Here’s What We Know.

We’ve got some bad news for those traveling soon, more specifically, if you use Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

These services are additional costs that allow travelers to skip longer security lines, as their information and background checks have already been stored in the system, to move them through security more quickly. This is often vital for many people’s travel plans, as travelers with these additions often don’t allow as much time to get through security before their flight, or rely on the additional time to grab something to eat or relax. If you’re someone who uses these services, we’ve got bad news — as of 6 AM this morning, Sunday, February 22nd, there has been talk about TSA PreCheck and Global Entry being closed.

As of November 7th, 2025, over 1,000 flights have been canceled flying within, into, or out of the United States due to the government shutdown.

You’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we cannot manage it, because we don’t have air traffic controllers.” Many major airports are being affected, including the Orlando International Airport (MCO), the closest airport to Disney World.

The FAA Canceled My Flight to Orlando Today. Here’s What I Did Next.

Last night, at about 10 p.m. Eastern, I got the message no traveler wants to see: My flight was canceled. I was supposed to fly from Evansville, Indiana (EVV) to Orlando (MCO) tonight on Breeze Airways — a trip I’ve made dozens of times. But with the FAA ordering mass flight cancelations across the country due to staffing issues and ripple effects from the government shutdown, my plans changed fast.

According to reports from NBC News, the FAA has grounded or delayed thousands of flights nationwide as they scramble to manage critical air traffic control shortages. Some airports have seen cancellations rise by more than 40% compared to an average Friday, and with Thanksgiving just around the corner — traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year — this is starting to look like a major travel crisis in the making.

You probably know about the iconic green carpet you see as soon as you get off the plane. You may even know that this airport is VERY busy, and can report some major delays if there’s a staffing shortage.
