Spirit Airlines was a popular budget airline for getting to and from Orlando, but it abruptly closed on May 2nd, leaving nearly 1,000 flights from Orlando Airport canceled.
Hundreds of thousands of budget flyers relied on Spirit for their Disney World vacations and general travel. A campaign has even been created to revive Spirit Airlines! But just in case the beloved yellow Airbus is gone for good, here are four great alternatives for your next Orlando trip.
So much has happened in the aviation industry in the past week, and a lot of it hasn’t been great news.
Most notably, popular budget airline Spirit Airlines officially went under and ceased all operations overnight, leaving a gap in affordable flights offered for travelers. However, now there’s some good news for flyers who are traveling in or out of Orlando International Airport — two airlines have now added new routes!

Last night, at about 10 p.m. Eastern, I got the message no traveler wants to see: My flight was canceled. I was supposed to fly from Evansville, Indiana (EVV) to Orlando (MCO) tonight on Breeze Airways — a trip I’ve made dozens of times. But with the FAA ordering mass flight cancelations across the country due to staffing issues and ripple effects from the government shutdown, my plans changed fast.
According to reports from NBC News, the FAA has grounded or delayed thousands of flights nationwide as they scramble to manage critical air traffic control shortages. Some airports have seen cancellations rise by more than 40% compared to an average Friday, and with Thanksgiving just around the corner — traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year — this is starting to look like a major travel crisis in the making.
Okay, this one is for you Floridians, or anyone who may want to travel from Tampa next year.
If you have plans to use Tampa International Airport, you may want to know some brand new nonstop flights that are coming to the airport next year. These flights come courtesy budget airline Breeze Airways, and they’re to Jamaica! So if you’re looking for a beach vacation to the beautiful island of Jamaica, this could be the universe’s sign telling you to GO!
Getting to Disney World just got easier! Breeze Airways just announced TWO new nonstop routes to the Orlando International Airport (MCO).
There are a lot of considerations when it comes to planning your Disney World vacation, and a big one is how exactly you are going to get there! Many families choose to fly to one of the nearby airports, and Breeze just announced two new routes to MCO.
The airline industry is consistently…inconsistent. One moment, we’re taking off our shoes in the security line — the next, we’re breezing by with our shoes on. One day, Southwest Airlines offered free checked bags. The next? We don’t want to talk about that right now…we’re still not over that change. You never know what will change before your next flight!
