Over 400 Flights DELAYED at Orlando Airport

Whether you’re traveling to Disney World or somewhere else, the traveling part can be fun (as they say: “It’s not the destination, but the journey,” right?). However, traveling can sometimes be the exact OPPOSITE of fun.

That’s especially true of flying. Sometimes things just happen, bad weather pops up, or other incidents occur that can cause flights to get delayed and even canceled. Well, that’s certainly happening today, with over 400 flights currently delayed at Orlando International Airport, with over 50 canceled flights.

If you’ve flown domestically in the US in recent years, there’s a good chance that you may have experienced at least one flight delay or cancellation. In fact, according to the US Department of Transportation, more than 23% of US flights were delayed in the first half of 2024. The US government is currently working on a solution to ensure passengers aren’t stuck with the bill in the case of flight delays.

The spring break travel season is upon us, and well, if you’re traveling this weekend, you may need to bring some patience, at least if you’re flying on one particular airline. So here’s the thing. Spring break travel means a LOT of people are flying into Orlando International Airport. However, this time of the year also brings rainy weather to the South and Southeast.

Those two things mean that this is the time of year that flight delays could happen (we saw delays around this time last year), especially on Southwest Airlines, which has a lot of flights coming and going from those destinations. As of March 9th, Southwest Airlines has delayed over 40% of its flights at Orlando International Airport. Ouch.
