Heads up if you’re flying in or out of the Orlando International Airport (MCO).
Orlando Airport is currently on a complete ground stop.
If you’re visiting Disney World in the summer, you’re probably already aware that the weather can be a problem sometimes, and not just because it’s also hurricane season (although that can put a wrench in your travel plans).
Not only do you have to worry about those random summer thunderstorms that can seemingly pop up out of nowhere and drench you in the parks (and close rides), but you also have to worry about how those storms — and other weather — could affect your flight to and from Disney World. Well, today, that’s exactly what happened. According to WFTV, the Federal Aviation Administration called a ground stop at several Florida airports, including Orlando International Airport, due to severe thunderstorms. That means that a lot of flights to and from Orlando will probably experience delays today.
The one thing you can’t plan for or control is the weather…especially if you’re traveling to Central Florida.
A sudden downpour can happen at any time, even when you’re in Disney World, and storms can even close rides (and sometimes close the parks). You also can’t plan for weather issues when you book your flight, meaning that flight delays can happen. Well, today, March 30th, is one of those days, and the weather has officially brought flights into and out of Orlando International Airport to a halt, meaning a LOT of flights are currently delayed.
All flights into Orlando International Airport, along with other Florida airports, are on hold at this time.
Flights into additional cities along Florida’s East Coast — including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach — are also in a ground stop until 8 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, March 6th.
If you’re traveling through the Orlando Airport, you might want to check the status of your flight. Now check it again. One more time? Flight delays and cancelations are pretty common these days — especially in Central Florida!
