U.S. Department of State Updates Travel Advisory for Popular Destination

Before you head to your next vacation, be sure to keep an eye on travel advisories to ensure that you’re staying as safe as possible.

These advisories can provide valuable insights into what to keep an eye out for when traveling, so you can make informed decisions on vacation.

If you’re traveling to Mexico, be advised that the country has now been marked as a Level 2 advisory, which means to exercise increased caution. This is due to terrorism, crime, and kidnapping, and has been put in place by the U.S. Department of State.

It’s advised to follow the same restrictions as U.S. government employees, which include:

May not travel between cities after dark
Must rely on dispatched vehicles from regulated taxi stands or app-based services like Uber or Cabify, and may not wave down taxis on the street
Should avoid traveling alone, especially in remote areas
May not drive between Mexican border cities, the U.S.-Mexico border, and the interior of Mexico with some limited exceptions.

The U.S. Department of State also said that the U.S. government has limited ability to help in many parts of Mexico and that emergency services are limited or unavailable in remote or rural areas.

While the country as a whole is listed as a Level 2 advisory, different areas have different levels, which allows you to base your travel on certain areas. These are the areas that have Level 3 and 4 advisories:
