Before you book your next Disney World vacation, there are a few rules you’ll want to follow.

Art of Animation
Staying at a Disney World resort is more than just a place to sleep. It’s part of the vacation experience. From themed pools and stunning lobbies to convenient transportation and unique dining, Disney hotels are designed to keep the magic going long after you leave the parks. But before you check in, there are a few new rules and tips every guest should know to make the most of their stay.
1. Check For Construction
Disney hotels are constantly being refreshed, and while that’s great in the long run, it can be a bit of a hassle during your stay. From lobby refurbishments to pool closures, construction can affect the atmosphere and amenities at your resort. Before you book, take a moment to double-check whether your chosen hotel has any ongoing or upcoming projects. A little research could save you from unexpected noise or missing out on that pool day you were counting on.

2. Check Cancelation Policies
Life happens, and when winter rolls around, so do unexpected illnesses and unpredictable weather. Disney’s cancelation policy for hotel rooms gives you some peace of mind: To receive a full refund of the guest’s deposit, notification of cancellation must be received at least 8 days before the guest’s arrival date. For vacation packages, cancelations must be made at least 30 days before arrival to avoid penalties. Knowing these details before you book means fewer surprises if you need to change your plans.

3. Check One More Time for Discounts
Disney is always rolling out new promotions and discounts on hotel rooms, sometimes even after you’ve booked. That’s why it’s smart to check for deals leading up to your trip; you might be able to save hundreds just by rebooking under a new offer. Travel planners like Small World Vacations can make this even easier; they’ll keep an eye on discounts for you and update your reservation automatically if a better deal pops up. It’s one of the easiest ways to make sure you’re getting the best value for your stay.

4. Check Special Holiday Offerings
If you’re visiting during the holiday season, don’t miss out on the resort-exclusive festivities. Many hotels go all out with seasonal decorations, like the massive gingerbread displays at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. However, it’s essential to note that not every tradition returns each year. This year, for example, the Grand Floridian won’t be hosting its famous gingerbread house due to construction. Double-check the latest offerings so you can plan to stop by the resorts that are showcasing their holiday magic.

5. Don’t Skip Your Hotel Dining
It’s easy to focus all your dining plans on the parks, but the hotels also have some incredible lounges and restaurants worth exploring. From hidden gem quick-service spots to signature dining experiences, your resort can add a lot to your vacation dining lineup. Disney has even added a new feature to the My Disney Experience app that shows you current wait times for hotel dining right on the map, making it easier than ever to snag a table when you’re ready to eat. Don’t overlook what’s right at your doorstep.

6. Know What Room to Book
For 2026 bookings, Disney will be adjusting the names of some room categories at Disney Moderate Resorts. Moving forward, the main room categories will be Standard Room, Preferred Room, or a room with a king bed. Some Disney Moderate Resorts will continue to offer additional categories, like the Royal Guest Room category at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—Riverside.
