If you have flown to Disney World before, there is a pretty high chance you flew through the Orlando International Airport (MCO). Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida and one of the busiest in the United States. Well, some big changes are coming to the airport over the next 10 years, and we have the details!
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) recently unveiled a new strategic vision to guide the future of the airport over the next 10 years. The vision is built around four pillars: Customer Experience, Community, Infrastructure, and People. This plan was developed during months of extensive research, collaboration, and input, and was approved during a board meeting on October 15th. We are taking a look at some of the highlights of the plan and how the changes might impact your future Disney World trips!
The airport has developed goals for each of its four foundational pillars: Customer Experience, Community, Infrastructure, and People. When examining the goals that will most impact travelers, the Infrastructure goals are the most impactful. By 2030, MCO plans to increase the available public parking by 8,000 spaces, complete the construction of a new baggage handling system for Terminals A and B, complete the airside 2 gate expansions, and add additional passenger conveyance in Terminal C. Additionally, the airport anticipates completing Terminal C, Phase 2 construction by 2035.
Additionally, changes are coming to the terminal names. Currently, the terminals at Orlando International Airport are Terminals A, B, and C, but eventually they will be renamed to Terminals 1, 2, and 3 to improve clarity and consistency.
The airport is also working to develop at least one new cargo processing facility and increase non-aeronautical revenue by 30%. Other goals include launching a Business Incubator at MCO, achieving a 20% increase over the 2025 baseline employee engagement, and restoring stormwater structures. The airport is also hoping to attain a 5-star Skytrax rating, which is a global rating system that ranks airports on quality of service and other standards.
We are pleased to see Orlando International Airport continuing to improve, making traveling through the busiest airport in Florida better — and our Disney World trips easier! Stay tuned to DFB for more news about the Orlando International Airport!
