On November 26th, Disney released Zootopia 2 to theatres. It achieved great numbers during its opening weekend at the box office, with China being the place where the movie hit the biggest. Well, Disney took no time at all adding a brand-new character at Shanghai Disneyland — let’s take a look at who showed up!
Since Zootopia was released in 2016, fans have been sitting on the edge of their seats for the long-awaited sequel — especially in China. The first movie was a massive success there, which led to Shanghai Disneyland getting Disney’s first, and only, Zooptia Land.

Now looking at the sequel, Zootopia 2 made $156-$158 million domestically and $556-$560 million globally — making it the biggest worldwide opening ever for an animated film and the second-biggest Thanksgiving opening in U.S. history. However, China contributed $270 million alone, making it the second-highest box office opening in the country EVER, falling only behind Avengers: Endgame.

The movie introduced a ton of new characters that you’ll fall in love with, as Zootopia 2 introduced reptiles into the world for the first time. One of them plays a pretty big role in the movie; his name is Gary De’Snake, and he’s managed to slither his way on over to Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disneyland! Check out this video posted by Disney Parks of Gary.

Now that Disney World just opened Zootopia: Better Zoogether in Animal Kingdom, maybe we’ll get to see Gary get introduced to that show eventually. For more Disney news and updates, make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog!
