Hey, I don’t like spending time in line either, and in Disney World, if you don’t want to wait in line, you have to pay to skip. Lightning Lanes are your way to pay a bit upfront, schedule your attraction, scan in, and ride, with minimal wait times.
With the holiday season, we’ve seen the prices for Lightning Lane Multi Pass go up, up, up, but luckily, we’re starting to see a drop in the prices. When should you buy Lightning Lanes? Let’s chat about it!
Disney World announces its Lightning Lane prices a few weeks in advance, so we’re already starting to look at the first week of January. January 4th seems to be the downturn in prices!
On January 4th, the prices for Lightning Lane Multi Pass are:
- Magic Kingdom: $35
- EPCOT: $26
- Hollywood Studios: $29
- Animal Kingdom $22
We haven’t seen Magic Kingdom at $35 since December 19th! Now, should you buy Lightning Lanes when they’re expensive or when they’re cheap?
Well, that really depends. Disney prices its Lightning Lanes based on how busy it expects the parks to be. So for major holidays, the prices are typically higher because Disney expects more people in the parks based on past years’ data. When the prices are higher, the parks are busier, and the standby wait times will usually be higher as well, making that coveted Lightning Lane look even more appealing.
Does this mean that you shouldn’t buy Lightning Lanes at lower prices? Nope! Even when Disney World is less busy, it usually doesn’t mean all of the rides are walk-ons. Popular rides are still popular, and wait times can still be over an hour or more. If you’re really worried about the most popular rides, the Lightning Lane Single Pass might work well for your family.
For Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can buy a single pass for the most popular attractions in all four parks. Lightning Lane Multi Pass, on the other hand, lets you book more than one attraction, but not the most popular rides.
On January 4th, the Lightning Lane Single Pass prices are:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: $14
- TRON Lightcycle / Run: $22
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: $22
- Rise of the Resistance: $24
- Flight of Passage: $18
