Disney Genie+ and Surge Pricing: What You Need to Know

Disney Genie is a service that is available to guests through Walt Disney World’s My Disney Experience app. And though this service is still relatively new (having debuted at Disney World in October 2021), there have already been NUMEROUS changes to this digital offering!

In addition to updates that have made the program easier to navigate, there have also been significant changes made to pricing structures for those who choose to purchase the service’s optional add-on components: Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Attraction Selection.

You can learn ALL the ins-and-outs of Disney Genie by clicking here. But as a VERY brief overview:

ONE: The standard Disney Genie service – which includes features like recommendations for attractions and experiences based on YOUR preferences along with real-time touring strategies, dining tips, and more — is a FREE service.
TWO: Disney Genie+ (Plus) is an optional paid service in addition to the standard Disney Genie. Disney Genie+ allows you to make available reservations* to bypass standby lines and enter the Lightning Lane (previously known as the FastPass line) at over 50 attractions across Disney World for one base price starting at $15 per day, per ticket at Disney World.(*The Disney World website states that “on average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using the Lightning Lane entrance if the first selection is made early in the day.” Our experience using Disney Genie+ in the parks has generally enabled us to get on more rides than that modest estimate.)
THREE: Individual Attraction Lightning Lane Selection is a pay-per-ride service. Guests pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction. (These attractions are the most popular in Disney World, and not included as part of the attractions available through Disney Genie+.)

On this page, we’re specifically addressing the variable pricing for the Disney Genie+ add-on so you can best prepare your budget should you choose to use this service during your Disney World vacation!

Variable Pricing for Disney Genie+

When Disney Genie+ was initially introduced in Disney World, the price to purchase Disney Genie+ was set at $15.00 per ticket, per day. In October 2022, however, surge pricing (you may see the term “variable pricing” on the Disney World website) was introduced to the standard base-price Disney Genie+ service.

The STARTING PRICE for Disney Genie+ is now $15.00 per day, per ticket, and therefore the lowest price available for the service.

Essentially, this means that the price of Disney Genie+ varies by date, which ultimately results in a higher price for Disney Genie+ on busier days in the park, when the service is in higher demand.

Busy days typically include holidays, weekend days, and increased crowds due to a special event at Disney World such as a runDisney race weekend.

It bears repeating: the cost of Disney Genie+ is per ticket (that is to say, per guest in your group), per day. So, bear that in mind as you budget the potential costs of Disney Genie+ for your ENTIRE traveling party.
