We recently sailed on Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Adventure!
This stunning ship is unlike any other in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and its home base is in Singapore, taking 3-night and 4-night sailings entirely at sea, with no port stops. We got to experience much of what the cruise has to offer, and we’ve have some serious tips for how to plan your sailing!
Is the Disney Adventure Worth a Dedicated Trip?
The first thing you should know about the Disney Adventure is that it looks completely different than the other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It was purchased as a partially built ship from another cruise line, and Disney completed the project. It’s larger than the other ships and laid out differently — it even has some staterooms that face inner courtyards and common spaces.
The size also means that the ship has WAY more to do than traditional Disney Cruise Line ships. There are more restaurants, more entertainment offerings, and even three rides on board. It’s a good thing the itinerary is packed, though, because this ship doesn’t offer any ports of call. It embarks from Singapore, sails around the South China Sea, and then comes back to disembark. Every day is a sea day.
With all the new, fresh, and exciting things, you may wonder if it’s worth taking a trip all the way to Singapore just to sail on this new ship. And in all honesty, if you asked us that question after we sailed on the maiden voyage? We’d probably say “no.”
The ship is absolutely gorgeous, and we had a spectacular time on the cruise, but if you’ve got other Disney cruise ships that sail closer to where you live, you can have just as wonderful of a vacation on those. To fly to Singapore, it took us 20 hours, and that’s a long way to travel just to board a ship.
However, if you really want to sail on this ship, there IS a way to make the trip more “worth it,” and that’s what we’re here to share with you now!
3 Tiny But Mighty Spots You CANNOT Miss on the Disney Adventure
Plan a Multi-Day Singapore Trip
Guys, if you’re going to fly all the way to Singapore to do a cruise, it would be a real shame to miss out on visiting Singapore itself! The country is absolutely beautiful and has some incredible culture to explore during your visit. We recommend planning at least 2-3 days to check out the sights after your flight and before your cruise.
When flying around the world (assuming you’re coming from the United States), you’re going to need some time to recover from jet lag. The 2-3 days give you that window, plus a little bit of time to hit the highlights of the area before you board the ship. Then, you can unwind and relax during your cruise. A perfect vacation, if you ask us!
So what should you do in Singapore? Well, we did a variety of things! We stayed at one of the world’s most famous hotels, the Marina Bay Sands, and it was absolutely stunning.
While there, we went to the ArtScience Museum…
…the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes…
…and watched the Spectra Light Show.
We also visited Chinatown, where we tried the famous Hainanese Chicken Rice from a hawker center. Absolutely DELICIOUS.
We stopped by Gardens By the Bay to see the giant future trees and their corresponding light show.
Little India was a lovely time! Here, we visited some historic temples and tried several treats.
Kampong Glam was perhaps the most GORGEOUS place we went to visit. Just look at that architecture!
And of course, we had to check out the skyline before we boarded the Disney Adventure.
So if you plan a few extra days for your trip, you can squeeze in a variety of sights, some incredible food, and get the chance to experience another culture. Why fly 20 hours to do a 3- or 4-night cruise when you could spend a whole week and get a full vacation in another part of the world?!
