For decades, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has provided the ultimate competition between families- hello, sibling rivalry — visiting the Magic Kingdom. However, the ride’s recent massive overhaul has left some veterans confused about how to achieve the highest possible score.

There’s no need to fret, though, as our team of former Cast Members has all the tips you’ll need to be a Galactic Hero in no time!

After a several-month-long closure, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin returned in early April. The attraction’s refurbishment brought several new features to Space Ranger Spin, including new ride vehicles, complete with new, removable blasters! Said blasters can be aimed at newly refurbished “Z” targets throughout the ride.

There’s also a new opening scene featuring the original robot character named Buddy, which ensures that “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers, and a chance to hone their blaster aim.”

Even scoring has changed! Originally, guests’ scores could top out at 999,999 points. Now that score only earns guests a rank of Cosmic Commander, while a new frontier score of 1,000,000 or more earns the highest rank of Galactic Hero.

So, what are the best ways to approach Galactic Hero? Here are some key tips:

• You’ll get more points when they hit targets that are flashing white.
• Clusters of targets that are flashing in rainbow colors give even more points and may unlock a bonus round unlock a 10-second bonus mode that allows rapid-fire at any target for massive points.
• It’s more beneficial to shoot a lot around the environment as opposed to focusing on one target. Try to hit as many targets as possible in quick succession, as their values can change.
• You can hit a target multiple times to increase the number of points earned.
• You can hold down the trigger and just focus on aiming for that black circle in the center of the target.
